Giant Tangerine Oscar |
|
Hey Folks,
Continuing to move pretty good numbers of fish, and I have plenty of new stuff that came in this week so hopefully it keeps going.
Shipments are in this week from Indo, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Colombia, plus I got in some new Florida fish.
I have a new tangerine oscar available this week. A Nautilus exclusive, these grew up in a sump on the farm. I honestly have no idea what the genetics are on these but they are very pretty and they are huge. I just made up the tangerine name. Which should help them sell. I'm not kidding when I say these are big, you're going to have a full box of freight for these.
Exodons are in stock from Colombia. Possibly the best display fish ever, a school of Exodons in a big tank makes an amazing tank. Good thing they're so nice because you're not going to mix anything else with them. I have kept them with plecos, cories, and other armored fish that stay on the bottom, but anything in the water column is likely to end up with no fins, scales or eyeballs. I have seen them successfully mixed with African cichlids which makes me twitch since they are from different continents and vastly different environments but I guess it works. In public aquariums they're often kept with piranhas which should give you an idea of how tough they are.
Vampire plecos are in from Colombia. Or I should say vampire/galaxias/toothnose/dracula/L007/L029/L240 plecos since they're all the same thing, or very nearly the same thing. Whatever you call them they're awesome. These are Leporacanthicus, which is mid-sized and very toothy group. They get around 10", so certainly not small but much more appropriate than the common plecos. These might be the worst plecos at eating algae. They are very carnivorous, so give them plenty of shrimp pellets, frozen foods, etc. These fish really don't like each other. One per tank unless you have big tanks and lots of caves.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Sales Manager Nautilus |

Got in both wild-type and albino pacus from Colombia again. They're decent size, big enough to be sturdy. These are too big for almost any tanks; please tell your customers that.
Some other wild fish that look good include new marble hatchets, bleeding hearts, green neons, silver dollars, blue hooks, red hooks and flagtail Prochs.
Longfin serpaes are still some of the best looking tetras here. Some other nice Floirda fish include gold pristellas, huge black skirts (on special), candy cane tetras, bloodfins, serpaes, longfin blushers and red-eyes.
Got in a new batch of rocket gar. Fat and happy farm-raised imports. Still have some great looking import glass bloodfins. Big with bright red tails. Some other far-east farm fish that look good include big penguin tetras, ember tetras, cardinals, and green fire tetras. I still have emperor tetras and they look good but they are small. Might have limited numbers of panda tetras too. |

Neon green kubotai rasboras are back in stock. I've got two pics below and the one of the fish in a net today isn't going to sell any fish but it is an accurate pic. They do look great when they settle in but be aware this is a really small fish, like chili rasbora size, maybe even smaller. They are hardier than chili rasboras (like every other fish in the world). Keep them in a planted tank with dark gravel and they'll look amazing.
Some other nice far-east imports include purple rasbora hets (very small again), redline rasboras (no red yet), huge gold white clouds, gold neon rosy barbs, platinum green tiger barbs, and red panda barbs.
Florida-bred gold barbs came in great size this week. I haven't been able to say that in months. They're pretty when they're big, with a little red in the fins and some random green spots. Red glass barbs got a little bigger, they look pretty good. Rosy barbs are still big and nice. Veil-tail cherry barbs are still awesome, big with crazy long tails. |

Florida-bred pineapple swords are the best choice today. Color and males. Sanke swords are small but not too female heavy. Kohaku koi (or Santa Clause) swords are decent size and pretty but almost no males. Firecracker swords are big and outstanding. Deep red with frilly fins.
Gold calico highfin platies are good size with great color and nice fins. Got a few highfin red-tail black variatus too. Blue mickey mouse, red tiger platies, dawn platies, and assorted XL platies are all nice as well.
Some guppies that stand out include red rose, Japan blue (an Endler's type), Moscow blues, ocean blues, red dragon dumbos, and white dumbos.
All the large sailfin mollies are big and exceptional. All the medium sailfins are small and crappy, get the larges. The gold dust and gold lyretail sphenops both look good too. |

Got a new batch of pikes from Colombia. Mostly the sveni types. This is a smaller species, max size around 8", and they're not as nasty as some of their relatives.
Florida-bred electric blue acaras are in stock and also huge. But huge for an EB acara is about half the size of the oscars. These EB acaras are very rarely available at this size. I might not see them again for months, so if you want them in stock for January get them now. FYI, these are the jumpingest fish I've ever seen. They jump so much that you'll suspect the EB gene is from hatchetfish. Make sure they have a lid.
Brasiliensis pearly eartheaters are available in a medium size. These fish are jerks. They're not going to act like other eartheaters, they're going to act like a Central American cichlid. They are pretty, and do surprisingly well mixed with Centrals. Still have outstanding regular and 4" red-head Tapajos in stock if you need an eartheater for a community tank. Also have regular heckeli and balzani at around 4".
Still have plenty of rare stuff in stock too. Spectabilis are oversized and colorful. Myersi aren't either of those things but they're growing fast and they're rare. Grammodes mini-wolf cichlids are already showing color and and teeth.
Not a lot of common fish around right now, but I do have OK looking firemouths and Texas cichlids and decent size convicts and pink convicts. Salvinis are available in a medium size with great color.
Import blue tiger parrots are as big as I've seen. As impressed as I can be by something this deformed. Got plenty of platinum parrots in stock too. Lemon oscars are super bright, very pretty although a little on the small side.
Lots of fun stuff this week. I have some new Geos, some new rare Centrals, and a few big show fish. |

Nothing new this week because I got a ton of stuff last week. Best looking fish are the various OB peacock/hap crosses. The OB Z-rocks, OB yellow peacocks, OB butterflies, and OB cherry peacocks are all awesome. OB red empress have faded a little but they'll fire up in a hurry in your tanks. Medium mixed male peacocks are nice size with good color. Quite a few albinos and dragonblood types in the mix.
Best mbunas this week are the medium fancy mix. Nice size and very bright. Medium socos are oversized and a good value. Other nice mbunas include exasperatus, OB zebras, red zebras, cobalts, acei, albino zebras, red-head macs, gold Tropheops, and yellow labs.
Far-east frontosas are back in stock. They are by no means big, but they're bigger than usual. Brichardis are about the same; not big, but acceptable. |

Gulper cats are in stock again. They came in pretty decent size. For a big-mouthed predatory catfish, these are pretty small and easy to house. Not often seen bigger than 6", although a gulper that big can probably eat a 9" fish. They're not at all aggressive, just prone to eat everything.
I also have some tiger shovelnose cats. Like the gulpers, they'll eat everything. Unlike the gulpers they'll outgrow almost any tank so if you're customers don't have a pond in Florida plan on having a fish fry in a few years.
Green phantoms came in crazy bright this week. I usually ignore the name yellow pleco for these guys but they deserve it this week. Blue phantoms are in stock again and pretty small. They'll need a few weeks before they look blue. Got in plenty of Colombian snowballs and zebras too
Pygmy cories look great today. They came in pretty good size and are doing well. Arcuatus skunk cories are very nice size. Got a few big Brochis cats, more metae bandit cories, and some lingering agassizii.
Some other import catfish that look good include farlowellas, royal farlowellas, royal plecos, spotted and striped raphaels, and four-line pims.
Florida-bred assorted spotted Synos (false multis) are big and a great value. Way nicer than the import petricolas and close in price. Fins are crazy long on the eupterus. Angelicus/eupterus crosses are outstanding, with a nice black and white labyrinth pattern.
Sumo loaches are in stock again. They're kind of mediocre sumos but they'll probably get more colorful. The red band in the middle is pretty weak on most of them. This is a small and peaceful species that prefers to live in small groups, but also wants plenty of hiding spots to get away from each other.
I might have clown loaches this week but they're tiny and you don't want them. Get the red-tail botias instead. They're big and they'll eat all your snails. |

Silver arowanas are back in stock and look great. List 6-7", and a few of them might be a little oversized. Not sure if I'll have any more until next year.
Paskai rainbows are in stock for the first time in ages. These are beautiful blue-eye dwarf rainbows, related to gertrudae. When I say beautiful I mean they will be beautiful. You're buying potential with these. Fortunately they grow fast and should have lots of color soon.
Florida-bred featherfin rainbows are huge with crazy long fins. For bigger rainbows, the Deepwater Creek splendida are still fantastic. Pretty sure I'll have more medium boesmanis, and the parkinsoni are showing good color.
Peacock gudgeon gobies are pretty good size. They're big enough that you can easily see how colorful they are. The females are also full of eggs so if you ever wanted to go crazy trying to raise microscopic fry now is your chance. These are pretty easy to spawn but growing up the babies is a challenge.
Back in stock with Singapore red paradise fish. Solid rusty red with black fin edges, these are very nice. The albino paradise are Florida fish and a little bigger than the reds. The blues are also far-east fish and colorful but very small.
Gold and red honey gouramis are both in stock and look great. I like the golds better, but the reds may be more colorful, and they're on sale this week.
Some other odds and ends that look good include leopard Ctenopomas, dwarf puffers, 6-7" fire eels (on sale), Siamese algae eaters, Florida flagfish, albino rainbow sharks in every size, doctor fish, panda garras, daisy rice fish, and orange medakas. |

Fruit snails are back in stock. This is a weird nubby nerite snail. They're small but usually do great and I assume they're awesome algae eaters like every other nerite snail.
Got in a few different rabbit snails this week. The names don't make sense, but I have a yellow-spotted and a white-spotted rabbit snail. They both seem a little stockier than the oranges. Neither of them is spotted as far as I can tell. Also have an assorted rabbit snail that's mostly a Faunus species.
Best shrimp are still the red crystal shrimp but I'm tired of taking their picture so you get a red fire shrimp pic this week. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
