OB Demasoni |
|
Hey Folks,
Best week of sales I've seen in about eight months. Obviously a lot of that is because most of y'all are skipping next week due to the holiday, but even factoring that into my numbers it's a really good week. I'm taking that as a good sign. And I'm going to assume everyone is going to sell a ton of fish after Thanksgiving and need to re-stock.
The office is closed on Thursday and Friday next week, and it's pretty likely we'll be getting out of here early on Wednesday. We are shipping on Monday and Tuesday, both UPS and airlines. If you want your fish packed on Monday the order needs to be here over the weekend. If you want fish packed on Tuesday I need your orders here Monday by 5:00. It's going to be crazy hectic next week as we'll be packing hundreds of orders crammed into two days instead of four. Let me be real clear-no late orders, we won't know anything about fill rate/scratches till late, and you won't get an invoice till the morning after it packs. Our packing crew is going to be working really late for a couple of days and my reps aren't going to see finalized orders till the next morning.
Don't expect a Monday email. I typically can't get that done till close to 5:00, and that's our deadline to order for the week. So I've got the herp list and salt list attached here. Also don't expect a dramatically different email next week. I'll probably write something new for this section, and have minor edits to everything below.
I absolutely had to share the OB demasoni up top. I have almost none available but they're so nice I had to go with the pic. Look for more of these in the future, as it's one of the best looking Africans I've ever seen here. The bubblegum OB socos are also super nice, but they're not as photogenic. These are pink and baby blue OBs with a pearly sheen over the body. Super nice strain that's really hard to capture in pics. Trust me, they're very nice, and they have a great name.
I have a few new Florida-bred Synos at sizes rarely seen. First, pure petricola are available and they're over 2" and super impressive. Petricolas are one of the slowest growing fish, which is why you usually see undersized 1" imports, bigger fish that are hybrid peticola-ish fish. These are pure and big and beautiful. They're more expensive than the hybrids, but your serious fish customers should be willing to pay more for these. For your customers that fall into the 'I like pretty fish' category I do have some bigger hybrid Synos. These are also Florida-bred fish. They are all petricola/multi-like, grey with black spots. A really good value, and a great fish for African tanks. Both of these are limited and I expect them to sell out quickly.
Chili red oscars are in stock from Indo. Another very limited fish but they're a bit pricey and it's a short week so I doubt I'll run out of these. This is a selectively bred high-red albino strain. It's a very pretty fish and brighter than a standard red albino, but I have seem them fade a bit here so you're going to want to keep them on a high-carotene color diet.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Sales Manager Nautilus |

Orange von rios got a little bigger and a lot brighter this week, they look great. Candy cane tetras are still getting filled every week, which is very surprising. They're are still coming in good size with great color. Some other Florida stuff that stands out includes jumbo neons (still on special this week), black skirts, x-ray tetras, pastel (gold) neons, red-eyes, and longfin blushers.
Panda tetras are in from Indo. This is a pretty good looking bloodfin relative, with a great name. They're silver, with black and white spots at the base of the tail. They're small but they can still be kind of nippy. Still have plenty of green fire tetras too, another bloodfin relative with more color.
Emperor tetras are in stock again and look great. This was a common Florida fish many years back, but no longer raised here. These imports are a bit small, but they get good size with long fin extensions when they're mature. Found a handful of albino Congos that have been lingering here for a while. Some other far-east farm fish that look good include glass bloodfins, gold pencils, balloon red-eyes, Congo tetras, ember tetras, and cardinals.
Restocked on even more flagtail Prochilodus. Red hooks and emperor blue hooks are both doing well. Red hooks are a little small, blue hooks are nice size. Still have lots of bleeding hearts. Green neons are huge for green neons, and on sale this week. |

Some of my longfin red GloFish tetras are gigantic. The greens are close to this size, so you can make a nice Christmas mix for your Black Friday sales. |

I have odessa barbs in stock that are nothing but silver, but are actually recognizable as odessa barbs. Black ruby barbs are about the same; you can tell what they are but they have no color. Large and medium tiger barbs are still very good size and worth the higher prices. Rosy barbs are big and nice too. Veil-tail cherry barbs are still big and beautiful with crazy long tails. Pearl danios are still good size and look fantastic. Longfin leopard danios got a little bigger this week too.
Got a new batch of far-east gold neon rosy barbs. Nice size and super bright. Import green tiger barbs and albino tiger barbs are both very small. Red panda barbs are good size, not showing red but almost big enough to. Checkerboard barbs are a bit small. They have nice color but it's a subtle nice color. Asian rummynose are on the brink of getting red, you can see hints of it on their nose. There are redline rasboras somewhere on the farm but they have so little red I couldn't find them. I actually have chili rasboras that have been here for a few weeks, getting fat and happy on live baby brine. Get them now before they die of old age. |

Calico sanke swords are surprisingly nice. They're small but there are males, and they're good quality. Import velvet wags aren't terrible. Not very velvety but the size is OK and there are males. Same thing with the pineapple swords. They're acceptable.
Gold calico platies are the nicest strain right now. Blue mickeys and gold twin-bars are pretty good size. Sunset mickeys and black platies are a little smaller but still pretty.
Gold lyretail sphenops mollies are pretty good size with nice lyretails. Gold sailfins are great size but I'm very limited. Assorted balloon mollies have a nice mix of colors. Medium sailfins got a lot prettier this week. They're terrible for sailfins, but the color is a much better mix, and they are pretty cheap. The males should get a big dorsal fin, but you'll have to be patient to see it.
Plenty of nice guppies and lots more coming in over the weekend. The Florida red/gold or pastel red/gold or whatever name I made up are one of the nicest. They're not as consistent as the Sri Lanka fish, but they have big tails, they're all pretty, and they may be the sturdiest guppy I've ever seen here. For imports, the blue cobras, blue Moscows, red tux, tricolor dumbo and red dragon dumbos all look good.
I did get in some red-line Endler's this week. I was expecting males, and I ended up getting them mixed sex. Very limited, but it's a rare opportunity to get pairs on this fish. They'll get a bit bigger and quite a bit more red as they grow, it's a very pretty strain. Not in pairs, but I still have some blue star Endler's males as well. |

Back in stock a few cheap cichlids in time for Black Friday. I have new black convicts that are pretty good size and pink convicts that are only a little smaller. Got in limited numbers of small green terrors. Texas cichlids are in stock, but very small. Medium firemouths are back in for the first time in months. If it was summertime these would be regular size. They are very small for a medium with mediocre color, but that's your only firemouth option right now.
If you want medium fish with color, the istlanum I got a few weeks ago are awesome. Spectabilis are nice size and bright too. Fenestratus are halfway to eating size, and if you get them hot they'll brighten up (and probably lay eggs, they're basically young adults right now). Still have some small myersi in here too, super rare as a tank-raised fish.
Ran through my jumbo Florida flowerhorns, but I got in some smaller and cheaper 5" red dragon flowerhorns. These won't get humpy like the imports but they do have good color. If you prefer the real thing I have XL pure trimacs in stock, ready to fight with with everything in your tanks.
Restocked on blood parrots this week. The size is pretty good and color is very good. Also have plenty of platinum parrots and blue tiger parrots. These are convict crosses so they'll stay a little smaller.
Still have a handful of assorted discus from Singapore, and limited numbers of cobalts and golds. These Singapore fish are solid, and on the high end of the list size. Also have Indo Apistos that are holding up great, and a few more uaru.
Florida-bred black angels are still on sale in every size. The mediums are nearly the size of a standard large angel, and the larges are even more oversized. |

I got nothing better than the OB demasoni right now but I have some big haps that aren't far off. They're on the limited fish list this week since I literally got one or two pieces of each of these. Platinum ahlis are a fish I've never had here before. They're obviously not pure, with their faces a bit less pointy than they should be, but they're plenty ahli-like and the color is fantastic. Sunstratus (rostratus crosses) are back in stock in standard and OB varieties. I got in a couple new 'stragstratus' hybrids which is a terrible name but it's late and I'm tired and the fish look awesome and there's only two for me to sell. FYI, the price on the limited fish list is pretty well discounted so get them now, the go up when they're on the full list.
In addition to these XL fish I also have a new set of medium male Florida assorted peacocks. They're very assorted, mix of peacocks and peacock-like hap crosses. Color is pretty good, and it's all natural. These aren't far-east hormone fed fish, they are adult fish and definitely all male. They do fade a bit when their bored, but I have two or three tanks in stock and move fish around every Friday so they start showing off again. I also got in more red-shoulder/red-sided peacocks with lots of color and a few more super bright red fire peacocks, a dragonblood type.
I have been getting some smaller haps too. This week I'm back in stock with red empress. This is an awesome fish when it's big and a full colored male. This fish looks terrible at this size. I do have small Taiwan Reef steveni that have the same problem but with an even worse name. Little blue dolphin moori and redfin borleyi are both in stock too, and actually have some color when they're small.
Albino auratus are back in stock this week. Also have some new snow white socos. Red zebras and OB zebras are running small. Acei, chailosi elongatus, gold tropheops, redhead macs, albino zebras, medium OB zebras, and medium socos are all good size. |

Restocked with a ton of pygmy cory cats this week, although if you've ordered them in the past you know they aren't always ready to go out the next week. This batch looks good so fingers crossed. For bigger cories, the metae are very nice. All of the spotted cories look good too. I have agassizii (sodalis), puntatus, melanistus, and lots of julii.
Got green phantoms and blue phantoms on sale this week. The greens are super bright and very nice. The blues get a little more blue every week. They look good now, and they'll get a lot better over time. Also have the sultan plecos on sale again. Still have a handful of the flyer plecos too, which is pretty surprising since they've been in short supply and they have a very unique appearance. Restocked on Colombian zebras and Colombian snowballs too. They're both a little small but look fantastic and are a good value.
Some other import catfish that look good include big jelly cats (still on sale, please buy them), striped raphaels, four-line pims (also on sale), and spotted pictus.
For tank-raised fish, I'm finally getting some 2"+ bushynose with some consistency. These are about a million times nicer than the 1-1.5" size that is usually more like 3/4". In addition to the awesome Synos I mentioned up top I still have plenty of gorgeous angelicus/eupterus crosses, lots of pure featherfin eupterus in multiple sizes, 2" decorus, and hybrid 'black panther' Synos. Florida-bred Venezuela black cories are still here and still spectacular.
Redtail loaches that came in Monday are still here and they look great. Good size with clean fins that are bright red. Tiger botias are still here and look great too. Yo-yo loaches are in stock but they are really small right now. Borneo suckers are small but always popular. |

Dwarf puffers are back in stock although that's not likely to last. If it wasn't a short holiday week I wouldn't mention them here, I'd just make a couple calls and sell them all. So if you're ordering this week you have a chance to stock up. The size isn't bad for dwarf puffers, and they're holding up well. Now that they've started showing up it means I'll have plenty to go around soon, but they might be in and out of stock for a few weeks. This is a true freshwater puffer, and usually a lot more laid back than any other puffers. On the off chance your customers get a nippy one, these are also a lot easier to house in a species tank.
Green panchax killis that came in Monday are looking pretty good. This is a wild-collected close relative of the gold wonder killis (which also came in this week). They green panchax will get some black splotches on their side, and nice red fin edges. Both of these fish hang out at the surface so they fill space that's often empty otherwise.
Blue gouramis got a little bigger this week, and I even have enough to run them on sale. Golds and opalines are a bit smaller. Pearls are so small that you really don't want them. For imports, I have small platinum gouramis. I'm not sure these are worth the money, but they've been selling (probably to people that don't read my email). Import blue neon dwarf gouramis are pretty, a neat strain with a color in-between wild and powder blues.
Boesmani rainbows got marginally bigger but a lot brighter this week. Yellows are still your best bet for size and color. Turquoise are small but with good color. Red rainbows are pretty good size and the males look decent but I don't sell them as all males. The smaller Celebes, featherfin, and signifer rainbows all look great right now.
Best week I've had for goldfish in ages, maybe years. I have more than one fancy goldfish. I have new panda telescopes, lionheads, and red-cap orandas, plus I'm still sitting on the black ranchus that I got last week.
Various other odds and ends that look good include peacock gudgeon gobies, rhino gobies, orange gobies, brown ghost knives, marble morays, leopard Ctenopomas, figure-8 puffers, panda garras, orange medakas, and daisy rice fish. |

Black racer nerites have been coming in really nice size and getting filled most days. Florida black mystery snails are decent size. Golds, ivories, and blues are all nicer, but they've been in and out of stock. Order the assorted mystery snails and you're more likely to get filled. Plenty of assassin snails in stock, and I might have a few orange rabbit snails left for next week.
Restocked on a bunch of Indo shrimp. The red crystals are still the best shrimp here. Orange shrimp are Singapore and decent size. The Black rilis, red rilis, and blues are Indo and a bit smaller. They're not bad, just a bit on the small side. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
