Pearlscale Goldfish |
|
Hey Folks,
Lots of incoming this week, including a few things I haven't seen in a long time. I have shipments in from Hong Kong, Indo, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangkok, and Colombia, plus deliveries from a number of Florida vendors.
Pearlscale goldfish haven't been available in any numbers for years. I have a lot right now, but I do expect them to sell fast. The size is pretty good for pearlscales. The conformation is great, they're all round and ridiculous looking. The scales are different, I guess? Some look exactly right, some look pearlscale like but with bigger scales, and some have a pearlscale shaped body but with normal scales. I don't know if that'll change as they grow. Also, I don't ever want to hear a complaint about how terrible parrot cichlids are from anyone that buys these fish.
Top-hat blennies are in from Hong Kong. This is a freshwater blenny, unlike anything else in the hobby. More accurately an estuary fish, but I've kept them in pure freshwater for months, and I know they've done OK in pure saltwater as well. They are a lot like a marine lawnmower blenny but with a weird casque on their head. The casque comes and goes a little, presumably shrinking when they're stressed, and bigger when they're showing off and happy. They seem to be territorial but not overly aggressive with each other. I imagine they'd make a great display in a big group with lots of structure and algae to graze on.
Got in a couple new fancy bushynose plecos this week. I have super-red bushynose available in a couple sizes. I still think super-red is a super-dumb name for this fish but it's a great looking fish. It's a rusty red color, and that's exactly what it's supposed to look like. They're almost never available at this size, expect them to sell out in a hurry. I also have some longfin lemondrop bushynose. Lemondrop, not lemon. This isn't the yellow fish with blue eyes, this is the brown fish with yellow(ish) spots. They also get yellow edges on the fins. The fins are crazy long, and they're twice the size of any other longfin bushynose in stock.
Don't forget to check out the USARK-Florida fundraiser auctions this weekend. More info here.
Thanks,

Another week with a lot of cheap tetras on special, both imports and farm fish. I have dirt cheap green neons, bleeding hearts, head & tail lights, big glowlights, and even bigger red-eyes all on sale next week.
Still getting in candy cane tetras daily. They're great size, beautiful, and have the best name of any tetra. Tiger silver dollars are also still coming in; get them while you can. Some other Florida fish that look good include serpaes and longfin serpaes, Colombian tetras, longfin blushers, bloodfins, x-rays, gold pristellas, and gold neon tetras. I have both von rios and orange von rios in this week. They're both small. The standard von rios have color, the oranges don't, skip them this week.
Emperor blue hooks that came in last week settled in and are showing more color now. The black bar on the side is more prominent, and the blue sheen is a little more noticeable. Red hooks are a little smaller (even it says large on the list), but they look great. For smaller fish, I still have a few ruby tetras, some red phantoms, and plenty of the green neons that are on sale.
Black emperor tetras are in from Indo this week. This is a really neat selectively bred color variety that almost solid black with a blue eye. This set is pretty small but already fully colored. As adults they're a pretty good size tetra, and are a lot less spastic than most tetras. Some other Asian imports that look good include green fire tetras, red beckfordi pencils, rosy tetras, black phantoms, blue kerris, ember tetras, and all-male Congos. |

Snakeskin aka rhombo barbs are in from Indo. They are far less aggressive than most barbs, and you can treat them more like a tetra or rasbora. Great color on these fish, with an exceptional green sheen in the dark bands. A few other import cyprinids that look good include red panda barbs, roseline sharks, and platinum green tiger barbs.
Asian rummynose are back in stock this week. They'll be gorgeous but they are tiny and have no color right now. One of the best options for a small tank as they're super bright when they're full grown and happy, and they don't need soft water to be happy like many of the nano rasboras or barbs. Courting males are silvery-white with red noses and red tips on the tail forks. They are active schooling fish, and if you have a nice size school you'll see males courting all the time.
Florida-bred large tiger barbs are great size. They get a lot of red in their fins and faces at this size. Gold barbs are pretty small but they are bright. Veiltail cherry barbs and albino veils are both big with crazy long fins. Rosy barbs, giant danios, and pearl danios are all nice too. |

Nicest swordtails that I'll have next week aren't here yet. I'm expecting more of the huge XL assorted swords over the weekend. Look for an update on Monday. I got in some very nice local marigold swords this week with good color and a lot more males than the imports. Import neons are pretty, just very female heavy. If you need red swords skip the velvets and velvet wags, they're terrible, but the assorted lyretails are mostly red and very nice.
Candy cane platies are very nice, a pretty red and white strain with a good name. Some other platies that look good include sunset mickeys, sunset wags, gold twin-bars, gold calico highfins, and assorted XL platies.
Best guppies in here right now are pink tux. Lemons, midnights and red dumbos all look good as well.
Gold panda lyretail mollies are running big and look great. |

Trying to clear out some lingering cichlids to clear out some tanks so I've got a number of things on sale this week. I have about a dozen of most of these so don't build your orders around them but it's good opportunity to get them if you can. Snook are small but cheap. Trimacs are basically medium size, great value.
Got a couple of different but similar severums this week. I have red-spot turquoise severums and a new red-spot rainbow severum. These are both selectively bred types that probably have efasciatus in their background as well as the decades old Florida strains that may be a mish mash of different types since 50 years ago everyone thought all severums were the same thing. The red-spot turqs have some blue in the face already, and they'll get plenty more. The red-spot rainbows are a higher-red strain. Both will be very nice fish, although I'm not sure you need both. I also have plenty of red-spot golds which I'm sure will be the most popular severum, and some new gold severums that are a lot less colorful than the red-spot golds but they're also cheaper.
Still sitting on a couple of monster jumbo cuarare tiger severums too. These are as big as they get, super impressive.
Firemouths are in stock again. A lot of the common cichlids haven't been as common lately so get these while you can. I also got in very small green terrors this week, they'll probably be hit and miss for next week. Salvinis are in stock, including some spectacular mediums, and some Rio Usumacinta 'emerald salvinis' that are bigger and brighter than the regulars.
Some less common Centrals that look good include huge fenestratus, small but super rare myersi cichlids, and deppi.
For Geos, I still have amazing altifrons in a couple sizes, plenty of small heckeli, a few awesome 5" heckeli, and medium balzanis with color.
New koi pearlscale angels are in stock this week. They don't have much orange but may get a little more as they grow. You can always sell them as panda pearlscales. Speaking of pandas, I have nice medium panda angels right now.
For wild fish, my Rio Xingu orange pikes get better looking every week. I still have plenty of compressiceps dwarf pikes, and a handful of Teleocichlas. Colombian pikes are still mostly the belly crawler types. They're good size and a good value. Still have plenty of wild oscars and some wild blue rams too.
Singapore discus are holding up great. The assorted and the pigeonbloods are the best ones (pass on the cobalts). Lemon oscars aren't real big but are super bright. I have plenty of electric blue rams, and a few lingering longfin blue rams.
I have all the parrots this week. Blood parrots are good size and bright. Blue tiger parrots look like deformed convicts and everyone loves them. Platinum parrots got a little bigger and are pretty. And I have a couple of the real Hoplarchus parrot cichlids and it makes me cry that the mutant parrots outsell them about 1000 to 1. |

Got a few new Africans in here this week. Tomato haps are a Lake Victoria species with outstanding color. These are similar to the crimson tide haps that I recently had. They're a better choice for fans of SEC teams not Alabama since I'm sure you don't want a crimson tide hap in your store. Like most Vics, the tomato haps are precocious breeders, with males in full color at ~2", and females often holding even smaller than that. I still have about a dozen piceatus left too, one of the rarest Vics around, apparently so rare that no one remembers how cool they are. Ruby greens are a lot more common, and blessed with a good name. They look great too.
OB comps are in stock this week too. This is a nice strain that looks terrible at this size but amazing as an adult. They're mostly silver right now but some of them are already getting an orange flush. Some other haps that look good include OB red empress, OB jungle haps, big male fuscos, and rostratus hybrid sunstratus haps.
For mbunas, I have new OB zebras and socos in a medium size. The red zebras are super bright, and a little oversized. The socos are way oversized and look great. For smaller mbunas, redhead macs, albino zebras, chailosi elongatus, exasperatus, and gold Tropheops are all very nice.
Still have a few Lake Turkana jewels in stock. Great size, these are all adult fish that will be insanely bright very soon.
I have new import brichardis in here this week. They're small but cheap. Domestic Karambe moori are big and look fantastic. Still have a few gigantic Maswa duboisi too, about as big as they get. |

Restocked on a bunch of Colombian plecos this week. Nothing new, but some very nice fish that are a good value. Colombian snowballs and Colombian zebras are both a little mixy in size but none of them are small. Green phantoms are all over the place, ranging from about 1" to 7". Might have a half dozen baby blue phantoms too. Royal plecos are in stock and look good. Still have lots of wild bushynose too. For lingering Brazil plecos, I've got limited numbers of medusas, polkadots, and candy stripes, and a decent number of sultans that I hope will be good to go out next week.
Restocked on a few cories and have plenty from previous weeks. Pygmaeus aren't tiny, and are holding up well so far. Punctatus have been here a couple weeks and look good. Metae bandit cories are good size. Brochis cats aren't as huge as they have been but still the biggest 'cory' and they have great color.
Lots of pictus cats in here right now, and they're on special for the first time in years. Some other South American imports that look good include banjo cats, bumblebees, farlowellas, gulper cats, and a few yellow-striped woodcats. It's getting cold now so you can order the awesome jelly cats that I've been sitting on for months.
Good variety of tank-raised fish too. In addition to the big super reds I have plenty of regular size. Regular on this is still a lot bigger than the 1-1.5" standard bushynose. Same think with the lemondrops. They're close to 2". The 2" brown bushynose are close to 2" as well, a few a little under, most a little over.
Florida Synos are still looking really good. The angelicus/eupterus crosses are awesome and I can't understand why they don't sell better. Florida multis (which are pure but have some non-multis mixed in the tank) are oversized and about a million times nicer than the import petricola.
Back in stock with Borneo sucker hillstream loaches this week. They're small but always popular. Still have a handful of tiger botias that look fantastic, nice greenish stripes and good size. |

Several import gouramis are looking good right now. Gold honeys are small but beautiful. Red honeys are bigger than the golds and look good too. Got more of the blue neon dwarf gouramis, which are crazy bright and have a pattern inbetween the powder blues and the wild type. Red paradise fish came in last week, very nice color variety of one of the sturdiest fish in the trade. For Florida gouramis, your options are blues and opalines. They're both OK size with decent color. I may have limited numbers of golds.
Medium yellow rainbows continue to be your best option. Big and super bright. Kamakas are very nice too. A different shade of blue than the turquoise, they are a lot bigger than the turqs and have a bright white blaze down the back. Deepwater Creek splendida are still big and bright too. For smaller rainbows, the featherfins look fantastic and never stop courting. Signifers are still good size with lots of yellow.
Got a handful of red and white lionheads that are doing really well. Also have lots of bigger fantails. The 4" are a bit oversized, heavy on calicos, and have gigantic tails.
Some other odds and ends that look good include orange (not orange) gobies, rhino gobies, daisy rice fish, tire track eels, 6-7" fire eels, leopard Ctenopomas, brown ghost knives, silver arowanas, Florida flagfish, and limited numbers of gardneri killis. |

Re-stocked on red-spot nerites again. They've been going out about as fast as I can get them in, but I doubled the numbers on order for this week so I should be able to fill more orders.
Florida ivory mystery snails and gold mystery snails are both pretty good size.
A little less variety for shrimp this week, but I'm still getting a great looking and great value Florida assortment. Some other shrimp that look good include bloody mary shrimp and black coco shrimp. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
