Surinam Toad Pipa pipa Fully aquatic distant relative of clawed frogs, but way cooler. (Old pick, but they're don't vary too much) |
|
Hey Folks,
Got in some new Florida cichlids and fancy angelfish, along with a handful of new imports.
I rarely mention herps outside the last section here but I have Pipa pipa Surinam toads available right now. This is a 100% fully aquatic species so they'll work in your tanks even if you are strictly aquatics. They will eat small fish and shrimp. Probably safe with bigger fish, but fish too big to eat may be likely to pick on these frogs. This is the species that has the bizarre breeding method, with the eggs embedded in the females back until they hatch out into miniature Pipa pipa.
Most of my Florida stuff is still in bags, it's here but I don't have pics. I have new large smoky pinoy and smoky pinoy veil angels. Very pretty fish with nice color. Turkana jewels are also back in stock. This is a gorgeous fish, with a bright orange/red body, black fins, and blue spots in the fins. I wouldn't call them peaceful but they are a lot less aggressive than standard jewels. Got in some OB zebras over the weekend with decent color. Gold barbs are back in stock and not terrible. They're small but they do have decent color. Way better than what I had been getting.
Tiger botias are back in stock. They're not huge but they look good, and haven't been around for a while. The bars are green already.
Also have a neat new import albino paradise. They have a really different look than the Florida albinos, with a pearly blue sheen on the top and on the fins. In the vats they look all pearly white, but in the net you can see the red bars, but a lighter red than the Florida fish. They're small (and so are the blue paradise) but a good looking strain. Tinfoils and gold tinfoils came in oversized, think my supplier sent a lighter pack. For new guppies, the red tux are by far the nicest. Koi, blue cobras, and laserbeam guppies look good too.
Featherfin rainbows jumped out more than anything today; they're big with crazy long fins. Various other fish that stood out on today's walk-through include blue gouramis (bigger than what I was sending last week), black ghost knives, metae cories, banjo cats, pastel gold neon tetras, medium balzanis, gold pristellas, candy cane tetras, Monos, green scats, and 5" salvinis.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,

New stuff two weeks in a row!
In addition to the Pipa, I have several other new amphibians. Northern tiger salamanders are back in stock and big. Pyxie frogs are quarter size and growing like weeks. Pacmans are back in a few different colors and growing almost as fast as the pyxies.
Good week for inverts too. Sun spiders aka camel spiders are in. They're not really spiders, they are solifugids, a unique group of arachnids. They're scary looking but they're not venomous. Red-claw Congo emperor scorpions are available again. They are not quite as laid back as emperors but still pretty easy to deal with. Desert huntsman spiders are in stock and assume so fast that they seem to teleport (at least if they're anything like our Florida huntsman spiders).
As far as actual reptiles, my favorite new species are the flying geckos. They're not colorful, but they do have a neat pattern. They're nocturnal but not too shy and will come out to feed during the day.
