    Apisto agasizzii 'Double Red'
    News & New Items

    Hey Folks,

Finally back in the office after a week at SuperZoo in Vegas, a couple days in Daytona for the National Reptile Breeders Expo, and two days this week tied up with Fish & Wildlife TAG meetings. There's times I wish I was doing outside sales but this week isn't one of those times, I'm exhausted. And I'll be out of the office three days next week too, but at least I'll be here Monday and Friday to get your emails out.

A little light on some local stuff since I've been out so much, but I got in quite a few new imports. Got in my regular Colombia, Singapore, Bangkok and Sri Lanka shipments plus a very nice Indo shipment with a bunch of variety.

Green GloFish sharks are in stock this week. The greens are going to be hit and miss for a long time so you should stock up and get them when you can. All the sharks are good size this week, and they're still on the buy three get one free promotion.

Double red Apisto agasizzii are in stock from Indo. These tank-raised fish are much sturdier than their wild ancestors. Much like killifish, it seems like a lot of folks think Apistos have to have super soft acidic water and only eat live foods. That may be true if you want eggs and fry. If you want pretty fish then all you need is clean water. Maybe not as hardy as a Florida-bred blue ram, but they're pretty solid. While these are cichlids, they are peaceful dwarf cichlids so small tetras or similar fish are a good choice for tankmates.

Diptail pencils are in from Colombia, and these would be another good choice as a tankmate for the aggies. A super peaceful and unusual characin, they hang in the tank with their noses up and tails down, hence the name. They're cheap, unusual, and work in a community tank. They can get outcompeted by more rambunctious fish so avoid hyperactive danios, big tetras or similar fish.

Got a new Florida-bred Central American this week. Herichthys tamasopoensis. This is an awesome fish that badly needs a better name. Tamasopo cichlid isn't going to help with sales. In the same genus with Texas cichlids and carpintis, but they're smaller and not as aggressive. Their max size is around 7", but they're mature at half that size. I've seen a pair of these fish fill their tank with hundreds of offspring of all sizes from multiple spawns. They're almost brichardi-like in how they live in family groups. I've never seen any other Central Americans do this.

Please give a call if you have any questions.

    Thanks

    Tetras and Relatives
In addition to the diptail pencils I have new Colombian bleeding hearts. Also have green neons. They are tiny but they are really cheap and bright. One of my worst fill-rate fish, don't build your order around them. We (hopefully) only pack if them if they're stable and holding up well. The red phantoms that came in last week have great color and size. Gold tetras, sailfin tetras, ruby tetras, small silver dollars, and decent size red hooks all look good too.

Very surprised I'm still sitting on a bunch of South American gar. They're mixed in size, but none of them are tiny (and the smaller ones are less likely to bang their noses on the side of the tank). Flagtail prochs are also in stock and another fish I expected to sell out of in a hurry.

Florida lemon tetras are some of the nicest lemons I've seen. Size and color is fantastic. Glowlights are also huge, and penguins are pretty good size. Longfin white skirts and blushing white skirts, longfin serpaes, and bloodfins are all very nice too.

Panda tetras are in from Indo. This is a bloodfin relative, same shape, but with black and white spots on the fin bases. They do have a reputation for being nippy. Like most nippy tetras, bigger schools tend to curb fin nipping. Green fire tetras are a little small but very pretty. Ember tetras are a little small as well but with good color.

    Barbs, Danios & Relatives
Got in snakeskin barbs aka rhombo barbs from Indo this week. This set is big with good color. This is one of the more peaceful barbs. They're active and decent size but not nippy.

Emerald dwarf rasboras are back in stock. This is a nano fish, a close relative of galaxy rasboras. They're similar, but with a barred pattern of green and orange. You can kind of see hints of the full adult color in the biggest fish in the pic below. They'll need to get a little bigger and settle in before showing their best color.

Got a few new and nice import farm barbs too. I have platinum green tiger barbs, a brighter version of the green tigers. Gold neon rosy barbs are good size and super bright. And checkerboard barbs are already showing red fins and a nice blue sheen over the body.

Florida-bred albino veil cherry barbs are in stock and look great. Got in a few non-albino veils, and a bunch of nice non-veil albino cherry barbs. The regular cherry barbs are imports and very small.

Florida black ruby barbs are still big and beautiful. As nice as I've seen. Brilliant rasboras, scissortails, giant danios, and gold zebra danios all look good too.

I have all of your swordtail needs covered as long as you need neon swords. Hoping for a swordtail restock over the weekend but swords have been hit as hard as anything with our record heat this summer. I do have some import calico sanke swords too. They're small, female heavy, and expensive, but otherwise nice.

Got a new batch of candy cane mickey mouse platies. Sunset mickeys, blue mickeys, bumblebees, and XL assorted platies all look good like usual. The sunset variatus are pretty neat this week. There's two or three different 'sunsets' from multiple vendors, so it's a neat mix of a lot of yellow/orange/red.

Obviously sales sucked this week when I still have a bunch of guppies. Best ones right now are the tricolor dumbos, midnights, assorted dumbos, and laser beams. I still have a couple dozen pairs of Florida-bred half black reds that look fantastic and are holding up great.

Got a few mollies that stand out as well. The gold lyretail sphenops are good size and super bright. Black lyretail sphenops are big too and have a nice orange edges on the tail.

    New World Cichlids

Green terrors are back in stock in a few sizes. Honestly there's not a huge difference in size between the regular, select or mediums, but I have a lot more selects than the other sizes so that's the most likely one to get filled.

Medium firemouths are back in stock but the size is terrible. About a 1/3 of the size I've been getting. No regulars firemouths this week. Black convicts and pink convicts are OK size. Hopefully get some Jacks in over the weekend. I did restock on some very pretty EB carpintis (that are probably a Texas/Carpintis cross). I do have plenty of beautiful salvini. The regular size is nice, the mediums are exceptional, and the 5" are oversized and fantastic.

True midas cichlids and argentea are nice size and look great. Friedrichstahli and septemfasciata are both small but showing some color. Cuban cichlids are in stock and look pretty good but some of them have less than stellar conformation.

3" heckeli threadfin eartheaters are running big and look fantastic. Got a few 4" that are way oversized. Very limited numbers (maybe a dozen) of 4" red hump steindachneri available with nice color. Also have very limited numbers of oversized 5" brasiliensis.

If the 5" fish aren't big enough for you I have one giant red devil left, and one giant flowerhorn that grew up in a sump here. It's big and bright but it's tail is stumpy.

I'm still getting some red-spot gold severums with great color. Red-striped liberifer look great too. These are Florida-bred fish, super sturdy and coloring up better than most imports I've had through here.

I'm almost out but the handful of Philippine blue angels are amazing. Smokey pearlscales and the smaller Bulgarian sealpoints look really good too. These are all Florida bred fish.

Wild oscars are in stock again. Love the pattern on these, it looks a lot busier than what I typically see on the farm fish. They may grow out of this, but they look fantastic now. I'm also in stock with wild blue rams but I'm not sure they'll be ready to go next week. Pikes are still in stock (good size belly crawler pikes), and I have three or four nice Atabapo red pikes.

For oscars with color, I've got plenty of small (~2") and medium (close to 3") mix, all the straight color common types, a few lemon oscars, crazy bright chili red oscars, and a handful of longfin common oscars.

I also have some import electric blue acaras and electric blue jacks. The acaras are a fair bit brighter than what I usually see with imports. Not Florida fish nice but not too far off. The EB jacks are very consistent. They're never big but they're always bright.

    Old World Cichlids
Not a lot new here but I still have lots of nice fish.

For mbunas, I'm surprised that I still have lots of acei. Not a rare fish but they haven't been around for months. They're a deeper blue than any other mbunas, almost purplish in a tank, with bright yellow fins. They're they're a lot more laid back than many mbuna. Msobos, cobalt zebras, albino zebras and both sizes of fuelleborni are all nice too.

Also surprised that I still have big male 'Hap' fuscotaeniata. These fuscos are big with super bright color. Cop azureus are the best looking fish on the farm and might be the best value fish on the farm too. The large assorted Haps are nice and bright too. Large peacocks are frankly a bit dull, but the medium male peacocks are super bright. A bit heavy on dragonblood/albino types but with lots and lots of color. I keep a couple tanks in inventory and mix them up every week so it keeps them from getting bored and dull.

For Tanganyikans, the Karambe moori are big with color, and they're on sale this week. Leleupi are great size and should also be sold out by now. Gombi transcriptus are still hear and very nice as well. I did get some far-east frontosas (small), duboisi (very small) and brichardis (decent size).

    Catfish and Loaches

Asian pygmy bumblebee cats came in this week. Only the second time I've had this fish, they look great. This batch is twice the size of the last set. These are small and peaceful, even smaller and peacefuller than the South American bumblebee cats.

Cory punctatus are the most likely cory to get filled this week. I have lots, and they look good today. Gold/greens just came in, they look good too but they are more limited. New Brochis cats are beautiful. They're huge with good color. Fins are short, it'll be a while before they fully grow back.

Pleco selection is going to look the same as every other week. I have Colombian snowballs, Colombian zebras, green phantoms, and royals. I did get a handful of XL green phantoms and large royals that are both considerably bigger than what I've been getting. I also have three or four pieces of L240 galaxias toothnose vampire plecos.

Raphael cats are finally coming in again, although limited numbers. They're a lot smaller this time of year but they look great. They still come in skinny but we're feeding them up and they look better every day.

I still have a few lingering yellow-striped wood cats (five pieces), and one lonely foxface catfish. Might have a dozen giant otos as well. Four-line pims are nice size. Royal farlowellas came in smaller but solid. Still have lots of chameleon whiptails and they're on sale this week.

Tank-raised Syno petricola are in stock from Indo. Very small, but that's expected for these. Florida tank-raised Synos are all good size. Unfortunately some of them got mixed up so I'll probably have an assorted spotted Syno available on Monday's specials. You'll get pure multis at a bargain price but you'll have to separate them from the hybrids that look a lot like multis.

Zebra loaches are in stock this week for the first time in months. They're great size and very pretty. Nice green and yellow striped pattern. Sewellia loaches are great size with nice clean patterns. Borneo suckers are a poor substitute for Sewellia this week, they're very small and brown.

    Other Fish & Stuff
Borneo panther crabs are one of the coolest things I've ever had here, and if I had more than a couple dozen they'd be in the top spot in the email. First time I've had them here. Their care is similar to a fiddler crab, although maybe a little more aquatic. Like other crab species, they're scavengers and opportunistic predators, meaning they're likely to try to eat fish in the confines of a glass box. They'll probably be terrible at catching them, but they will be persistent. These are so cool they deserve a display of their own, don't try to shoehorn them in with other stuff. Don't think they get much bigger than shown in the picture below. One neat thing I've already seen is that they change color a lot, and quickly. The dark crab in my hand below was as light as the ones in the other picture about 10 seconds earlier.

Pink kissers are back in stock again. Florida bred fish and pretty decent size. Also have acceptable blues and golds. I'm back in stock with sunset thicklip gouramis, they're a little small but showing pretty good color already. Import gold honeys are very pretty. Also have import sparkling gouramis with nice color, and at the opposite end of every spectrum I have true giant gouramis in wild-type and black-eyed gold.

Best rainbows this week are medium yellows. Medium Goyder Rivers and kamakas look good too. Regular size boesmanis and turquoise have some color but far from full color. For the smaller types, featherfins are still running big and have crazy long fins.

Decent variety in goldfish this week. Panda telescopes have nice color but the eyes are barely telescoping. They are holding up this week. Lionheads look pretty good, and black ranchus are doing well (although it's more like a mix of black ranchus and copper ranchus). Might have some pearlscale types available, check on Monday to see if they're stable. Domestic fantails and shubunkins are both exceptional. The 3.5" fans and 4" shubunkins are both closer to 4-5" and have nice color.

Arowanas are in stock in two sizes. The bigger size is a lot bigger, probably worth the higher price point.

Various other odds and ends that look good include transparent knives, black ghost, big royal clown knives, ossa knives, spotted puffers, bumblebee gobies, green scats, green panchax killis, rhino gobies, ghost sharks, and Siamese algae eaters.

Tons of new shrimp this week from both Singapore and Indo. The red crystals are by far the best looking shrimp here. Red rilis are Singapore, and bigger than the black rilis. Yellow fire shrimp are big and nice too. Cherry shrimp are Indo and have pretty crappy color.

    Effective February 1, 2019
Pictures for freshwater DOA claims are REQUIRED.
DOA credits will no longer be approved if there are not accompanying pictures. This is to see the bag sizes, water quality at arrival, if heat/ice packs are present, etc.

Just snap a picture of the bag with your cell phone as you're putting the bags in the tank to float and that will work and should only take literally 10 seconds per bag that contains losses. These will help us to figure out why they arrived DOA and how to prevent it in the future. It is preferred that you email the pictures to your rep, but you can also text them into your rep as well.  Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

    SALTWATER DOA POLICY:
All Saltwater DOA need a clear picture of the fish out of the bag on a cooler lid from your shipment and emailed to your sales rep the day or day after your shipment arrives.  Any fish lost in shipment will be credited if you follow that easy instruction. Fish that die overnight are not creditable unless they arrive in very rough condition (basically dead) and you notify us of the condition with a clear picture of the issue the day it arrives.
