Galaxias Woodcats Indo tank-raised fish |
|
Hey Folks,
Good week for incoming and outgoing. No issues getting orders packed this week, and fill rate is back to normal. I think we hit right around 90% fill this week which is about in line with most of the last six months.
For incoming, I got in a ton of variety on my Indo order plus a few oddballs on most of my orders this week. Got in shipments from Colombia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, plus a lot of Florida fish.
Got in new tank-raised woodcats came in from Indo. I've had them before but not for years. These are closely related to and similar to the mosaic/ninja woodcats. They have a spotted pattern, and when they're settled in the spots are more of a yellow(ish) color. Like other Tatia, they are peaceful invert feeders, safe with most fish although like any catfish if a fish will fit in their mouth it's likely to end up there. Max size on these is close to 5". These are listed (I think) as galaxias, but I'm almost certain they're Tatia intermedia, a related species.
Asian rummynose are in stock again. These are a rasbora, not a tetra. Like the rummynose tetra, they get their name because they have a red nose. The Asian rummynose also get distinct red bands on the caudal forks. The body is a platinum color that contrasts strongly with the red fins and face. Unlike many of the tiny cyprinids from southeast Asia, these are hardwater fish. Originally from Lake Inle, their natural habitat is hard basic water just like Florida water (and a whole lot of the rest of the country). So you don't need to mess with RO water and acid for these fish to look good. These fish typically need some time to settle in and need to get a little bigger before they color up. This set came in very good size, with the biggest fish already showing a lot of red. These are going to be gorgeous in a week or two.
Red vampire crabs are in stock again. Same care as the purple and yellow ones that I usually have but bright red, and this set has white eyes. These are more terrestrial or semi-aquatic than full aquatic, living along the side of streams. They are the perfect inhabitant for a paludarium. Unlike most crabs, they don't have pelagic larvae. The females carry the eggs around until they hatch out as miniature replicas of the adults.
Back in stock with green GloFish sharks this week. They're going to be hit and miss for a while so get them while you can. No red barbs this week but I should be in good shape on all the other lines of GloFish.
Another reminder on Project Piaba. They have an upcoming trip to the Rio Negro, and you can join them. Here's a few links to their information about the trip: facebook; instagram; youtube. And of course there's lots of information on their website.
And a reminder about the Banggai cardinals. There's zero reason to list these as endangered and prohibit importation. Lots more detail here on the NAIA website (this is an organization that you should follow and support), as well as a write up from Quality Marine here on the Amazonas site. Please make sure you submit your comment to the National Marine Fisheries Services.
Thanks,

Pinktail Chalceus are back in stock. They're super limited, so if I still have them on Tuesday it's a crappy week. They're a little mixed in size but none of them are small. They all have nice pink tails like they're supposed to. This is one of the jumpingest fish I get, make sure they have a lid.
Albino pacus are in from Colombia. You know my spiel by now; these are terrible fish and don't put them in your customers tanks unless you'll take them back. I do feel a lot better about selling albinos than regular pacus as they'll get eaten by birds in a hurry if your customers dump them in a lake (which should be against all the direction that you have, hopefully, already given them). I also wild-type pacus that the birds will have to work harder to find.
Still have some nice bleeding hearts, rainbow emperor tetras, small ruby tetras, a ton of green neons, and limited numbers of red phantom tetras. For bigger fish, I still have nice red hooks and a few South American gar.
I don't know if they'll be this big all week, but the black skirts I have in stock today are some of the biggest ones I've ever seen here. Longfin blushers are pretty big too. Colombian tetras are mixed, including some really big fish. Silvertips got a lot bigger and nicer as well, although they continue to be one of the hardest fish to get a decent picture of. Penguins, pastel neon tetras, gold pristellas, bloodfins, glowlights, new albino glowlights, and red-eye tetras all look good too.
Green fire tetras are in from Indo. They're a little smaller than I'd like but you can clearly tell what they are. Some other far-east farm fish include black neons (small), black phantoms (a little bigger this week but still small), nice glass bloodfins, blue kerris, ember tetras, balloon red-eyes, albino Congos, and all-male Congos. |

Purple rasbora hets are in from SIngapore. Neat tank-raised color variety of the standard rasbora hets where the black 'triangle' pattern is more purple than black, and it expands to cover most of the body. They are small but very pretty. Standard rasbora hets are mostly imports now but they're good size.
Platinum green tiger barbs are also back in stock. One of the brightest varieties of tiger barbs that I get, the body is solid bright green, not splotchy and not the dark moss green like the standard green tiger barbs. These are also a lot bigger than the standard greens, and they have bright red fins.
A few other nice import cyprinids include new kubotai green neon rasboras, emerald dwarf rasboras, red panda barbs, checkerboard barbs, and galaxy rasboras.
Florida-bred large tiger barbs look fantastic. Great size and lots of color. Albino cherry barbs are still very nice, and the albino veils and normal veils are gorgeous. Red glass barbs are back in stock at a slightly less crappy size. Giant danios and pearl danios both look good. |

While my swordtails are still very skewed towards imports the types that I have are very nice. I restocked on calico Sanke swords, Kohaku red and white koi swords, painted swords, and pink comet swords. None of them are big but they're all pretty fish. They are female heavy. The only Florida swords I have right now are limited numbers of XL assortment, and you should buy them every week till I run out. Huge and a great value.
Restocked on vampire swords and firecracker swords too. They're both big with deep red color, super impressive.
XL assorted platies are very nice as well. They're big, and the mix has a ton of color. A few other platies that look good include calico sunsets, gold mickeys, gold twin-bars, red tux.
Real low on guppies again, but I've got a few things that stand out. Koi, red tux, green dragon dumbos, and gold/red tux are all very nice. And I'm expecting a ton more on Sunday.
I do have very limited numbers of Florida-bred blond blue star Endler's males. Very unique look, and a perfect nano tank fish.
Gold dust mollies are big and bright this week. Black lyretail sphenops are also very nice. |

Got a new Apisto in from Indo, Apistogramma borellii. The picture below clearly shows that your buying more potential than color with this fish. These came in real small. These are the 'opal' variety, so they will get nice red spots on the face. The body will turn blue, and they'll get high fins. Eventually. Double red aggies have some color already, although they're more orange than red. The fire gold aggies look decent. Neither of them are full color but they're two to three times the size of the borellii.
Got a few other far-east imports in stock. Longfin oscars are super nice this time, way better than the last couple sets. They're not big, and they're all common oscars so not that colorful, but the fins are very nice. I also have some tank-raised uaru back in stock, and I'm still sitting on some very nice leopard discus and big red turquoise discus.
New oscars are in from Florida farms too. They're list 4" but they're all oversized. They're also listed as red tiger which is a bit of a stretch but they are a bit brighter than common oscars.
Got in new dovii this week. They are small, and really small compared to the oversized fish I had for months. But they are dovii so they'll grow like weeds and kill everything. If they're not mean enough for you I still have some trimacs that are approaching medium size. This is the fish that puts the bastard into the flowerhorns personality.
I have both black and pink convicts on sale this week. They're both pretty good size and have some color.
The Rio Usumacinta salvini are gorgeous. I know the name sucks since 99% of your customers don't care about locales, so I present you the emerald salvini. They're not all as big and colorful as the one in the pic below but lots of them are.
Some other nice Florida fish include a handful of gorgeous 4"+ red hump Geos, 3" chocolate cichlids, pearly silver argentea, gold-sided septemfasciata, blue umbees, yellowjackets, and little snook.
Medium black angels are fantastic size with good color. They're coming in as big as the large fancy mix. I have a few silver and gold pearlscales, and lots of big and bright koi angels in a couple sizes. |

Not a lot new here but plenty of nice fish. One new fish came in on my Indo shipment and they're a lot like the borellii I mentioned. They're small and you're buying more potential than pretty. These Anomalochromis thomasi the African butterfly cichlid. This is a jewel cichlid relative, but very unlike jewel cichlids in temperament. They are small and peaceful, getting up to about 3", and with a very laid back temperament. They're a good tankmate for peaceful tetras (maybe not neon sized fish but any of the round-bodied types) and most other community fish. They don't get red like jewels but they do get very pretty rows of pearly blue spots. If you want a similar fish with color the Lake Turkana jewels are awesome and get brighter every week. They're in between the two species in temperament. Not as mean as jewel but not exactly a community fish.
My best mbunas this week are redhead macs and albino zebras. They're both oversized and look great. Acei, socos, snow white socos, EB johannis, cobalt zebras and yellow labs look good too. The medium OB zebras are awesome and should have sold out already. Fancy mix mbunas are super nice too, with the mediums being the best value. Demasoni are imports and not real big but they still look great.
For peacocks and haps, I have a refreshed medium male Florida mix that looks really good. They're listed as mixed peacocks but there are some haps in the mix. All the haps in the mix are oversized and have color. Taiwan Reef steveni and some kind of blue Protomelas type. Some very pretty albino sunshines and dragonblood types in the mix too. The large male fuscos, OB red empress, and large male OB peacocks look great too. For smaller fish, the piceatus and ruby greens are very nice, with the bigger males colored up. The crimson tides are small but some of them are getting color. Vensutus and redfin borleyi are pretty nice as well. The mixed berry peacocks are just starting to color up. It's an interesting mix of OB red and blue types, plus some non-OB types in the mix.
Still have a few of the big Maswa dubuoisi, but they're selling fast and I expect to run out this week. The leleupi are beautiful and I'm shocked they're still here. Fantastic size, which isn't common for this slow-growing Tanganyikan. |

My Colombia shipment was pretty significantly delayed and some of my catfish may be iffy for next week. I did carry over plenty of stock so there's no shortage of fish here. Biggest impact is cory cats; give your rep some alternatives or let them make subs for you. I should have plenty of fish, but there may be certain species that need more time before I can ship them out.
Gold/green cories have been here a week plus and are solid. Nice size with good color. As far as spotted cories, julii and new punctatus are probably the best ones. I should have limited numbers of metae bandit cories, rabauti, and maybe some small arcuatus skunk cories. Pygmaeus cories look great today; hopefully that's still the case on Monday.
Pleco selection is pretty limited but that's not due to late shipments, just not enough fish coming in right now. I may have limited numbers of Colombian snowballs, some smoky peckoltia plecos, a few royals, and some wild bushynose. I definitely have some XL green phantoms. These are huge and have very nice color.
Bumblebee cats got even smaller this week. I have them but they're tiny. Banjos aren't real big either. Striped and spotted raphaels are OK size, not big but not undersized.
Some other import catfish that look good include Burmese sun cats, tiger shovelnose, giant jelly cats, mosaic ninja cats, giant otos, great size Brochis cats, royal farlowellas, a couple of granulosus cats that have been here months, and a bunch of full size nice zamora cats.
While I'm a little short on wild catfish I do have more tank-raised fish than usual. I still have gorgeous Venezuela black cories and longfin green cories, both Florida-bred, plus far-east nice size sterbai cories. I also have a new bigger size of albino hoplo cats that look fantastic. Longfin lemondrop bushynose are awesome and a great value. Large albino bushynose are among the biggest ones I've seen here, super impressive. Tank-raised Indo petricola are tiny (like usual), but I have some really nice Florida multi/hybrid mixed Synos that are over 1.5" and fat. It's a mix of multis and I think black panther hybrids, so there's pure fish in the tank, they're just not sorted. The angelicus/eupterus crosses are on special again and they're gorgeous. Big black and yellow fish with a neat labyrinth pattern.
Got in a couple types of similar hillstream loaches. I have Borneo suckers, which are a mixed bag of species. They're mostly spotted, but some barred types in the mix. Also have new Sewellia loaches that are a lot bigger than the Borneo suckers but not as brightly colored as normal. They're also a lot more spotted than striped, and probably the same as what's listed here as Sewellia sp spotted. Dojos and gold dojo loaches are both good size. Should have some small yo-yo loaches, maybe a few clown loaches, and I'm still sitting on highfin banded loaches too. |

Bumblebee gobies that came in Monday are still here and still look pretty good. Bit of specialty fish but you can at least avoid the baby brine shrimp (probably) if you have Sera micropellets. They'll make a great little species tank, just going to need some salt in their water.
Nice selection of eels are in stock this week. I have a few Burmese tire track eels. List 6-7", most of them are on the low end of that range. Also have quite a few fire eels that are in the same size range. Zigzag eels are very, very mixed in size, but the bigger ones are real nice. This is a smaller species of spiny eel and a little bit easier to house. They max out around 8".
Furcatus rainbows came in with a crazy amount of yellow. They're great size with a ton of color. For bigger rainbows, I still have a few medium yellows with great color. I also have regular sized yellow rainbows with OK color, and boesmanis that are pretty good. Deepwater creek slendida may not be much different than a fancy Australian rainbow, but they're real fancy, with lots of rusty red in the body and the fins.
Nice variety of goldfish in stock today. The 6" orandas that are on sale this week are very nice. Been here about a month and very solid. Panda telescopes are holding up well too. Nice panda pattern/color, and the eyes are decent telescopes. Black ranchus are very nice, OK size and deep color. Should have a few lionheads for next week too. For domestic goldfish, I have a ton of 3-3.5" calico fans. They're all closer to 4", with really nice color, long fins, and they're on sale this week for a great price.
Just about out of the lavender gouramis that looked good last week but there may be a dozen left. Blue and gold gouramis both got smaller this week but still look OK. Pearl gouramis got a lot smaller and have no color. Albino paradise are very nice. Blue paradise are imports and they are bright but really, really small. Still have plenty of very nice gold honey gouramis. And I have all the true giant gouramis you could ever want, both wild-type and black-eyed golds.
Some other fish that look good include medium silver arowanas, green scats, spotted and figure-8 puffers, 3" clown knives, doctor fish, redtail sharks, ghost sharks, Siamese algae eaters, and transparent knives. |

New category this week. I'm going to be optimistic and hope that I have enough variety going forward that it makes sense to keep this category. Maybe some day I'll have more than a couple loaches so I can even split them away from the catfish because it drives me crazy combining those unrelated groups.
Indo is always good for a variety of inverts and this week is no different. I've got several things I haven't seen in a long, long time.
I have a ton of really nice red crystal shrimp in stock right now from three different sources. You want to request the Singapore ones because their pattern is a lot cleaner than the Indo ones. I may end up with different numbers for these but not sure. The good ones are very nice red and white, the not as good ones are still nice, just not as cleanly banded and not as brightly colored.
Back in stock with a black rili and black carbon rili and if you can explain the difference between these please let me know. They look the same to me. Also have red rilis in stock. For solid color shrimp, I've got nice bloody mary shrimp, orange sunkist type shrimp, and black coco shrimp.
I also have more of the Borneo panther crabs which are one of the coolest things I've ever had here. These are more aquatic than the vampire crabs, and a little bit bigger.
Got a couple new snails in stock this week too. I have volcano faunus snails, which are a rabbit snail relative with a smooth shell. This batch doesn't have the shell color that I expected, they're basically all black. I also have a 'mixed rabbit snail' which is basically the faunus snails and orange rabbit snails. I did re-stock on orange rabbit snails as well.
Assassin snails are also back in stock. Red-spot nerites came in again, and I expect them to sell out in a hurry again. Horned nerites and limited numbers of fruit snail nerites are also available. Getting reasonable numbers of mystery snails now. Blues have been the biggest ones lately. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
