GloFish sharks are on sale!
Copadichromis azureus
News & New Items
Hey Folks,
Big news in GloFish. I have GloFish sharks on sale for buy three get one free. If you haven't gotten sharks since they were launched then you've never seen them at the right size. The required size standards for sharks is higher now than it originally was. On top of that we've had literally years of short supply until recently. So we finally have enough sharks, and we finally have sharks that are the right size, so we're running a promo. If you already stock them then here's a great opportunity to get them at a discount. If you haven't been stocking them then here's an opportunity to try them out. They are great fish and they have been selling well since supply has increased. Even more exciting, the green sharks are available this week (although they won't be in the mix). They are going to be hit and miss for many months, but there's very good availability on the blue, orange and purple sharks.
Almost SuperZoo week. I'll be in the office Monday morning, flying out Monday afternoon. You'll get a Monday email but it may be a little more brief than usual. If you're heading out to SuperZoo make sure you stop by our booth. I've got some new fish to show off there, including GloFish lines that you probably haven't seen before.
Also have an new old rep helping out at the show. If you've been with Nautilus a long time you probably talked to April. She's heading out to Las Vegas to work the show for us. Make sure you stop by and say hi.
Flagtail Prochilodus are in stock. It's been almost six months since I've had these so I expect them to sell out in a hurry. This is such a unique looking fish. They have a mouth like a kissing gourami, a body like a tinfoil barb, and a black and white striped tail. They get big, potentially well over a foot long. These are active fish that are often kept as dither with big moderately aggressive cichlids. They're big enough, fast enough, and sturdy enough to work well in that role as long as they're in a big tank. They'll eat just about anything but naturally they're an omnivore leaning towards herbivore, and will eat some algae.
Got in a mess of new peacocks and haps this week. By far the best value are some medium male Cop azureus. These are full color males, crazy bright blue with a white edge on the dorsal. They're not a peacock, but they're basically the same as a peacock in terms of care and temperament. They'll work fine in a mixed peacock tank.
Got a new batch of pearlscale goldfish this week. These come in to me as a red-cap pearlscale. I doubt that's acurate but they do have hints of a wen (the head grown that orandas get). They're not real big so I expect they'll get some growth on the head, but I doubt it'll be like a full oranda head. At the same time, the pearlscaling also kind splits the difference between an oranda and crowntail. The body conformation is closer to a pearl than an oranda. All in all this fish doesn't really match anything. I'm sure there are goldfish nerds who hate them as much as I used to hate blood parrots or flowerhorns. But the fish looks pretty good, and I suspect it'll look great when it get's a little bigger.
Nothing new on federal Lacey issues. The house bill didn't pick up any new cosponsors this week (hurray). Like I said last week, my current ask is that if you are a voter in the district of any house sponsors please reach out to your representative. If you are a Florida resident reach out to Senator Rubio. Talking points at this USARK link.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Sales Manager Nautilus

Tetras and Relatives
Exodon paradoxus 'bucktooth' or two-spot tetras are back in stock. Both of these common names suck but 'bad ass tetra that hangs with piranhas and sucks the eyeballs of it's enemies out of their skull' is pretty cumbersome. They don't actually have enemies, they just find their tank-mates eyeballs delicious. This fish is naturally a fin and scale feeder, and is pretty challenging to keep with most other fish but they make an amazing species tank display. Colorful and crazy active, even with no other fish it'll never be a boring tank. I have seen them kept with piranhas and even with African cichlids, but most mid-water swimming fish are likely to get chewed on. I've kept them with cories, plecos, and other bottom dwelling fish without incident, but if you're going to try this make sure they are very well fed. Also make sure they're in groups of six (preferable twelve) or more. The less you have the more they chew on each other. There's no need to replicate their natural diet, they do fine a high quality flake/pellet/frozen food diet.
Pacus are in stock again this week. So it's my opportunity to once again strongly suggest that if you're going to sell fish like this be willing to take them back when they outgrow your customers tanks. If you can't accommodate that then you shouldn't sell this fish.
Sailfin tetras that came in last week are looking really good. They're not fat yet, but they're a lot fatter than they were last week. Still have limited numbers of red phantom tetras, lots of gold tetras, and a few bleeding hearts. For bigger fish, red hooks look really good, and I have a few South American gar still available.
For Florida fish, I think I have the fattest albino Buenos Aires I've ever seen. They're huge and the females are full of eggs. They're pretty limited, and they're even more limited if you want them to have a full set of operculums.
Longfin serpaes get better every week. Some other Florida fish that look good include penguin tetras, big Colombian tetras, diamonds, glowlights, and gold pristellas.
Far-east black phantoms are still amazing, one of the biggest and best looking tetras here. Glass bloodfins, green fire tetras, and albino Congos are nice too.
Exodons came in real small. They can get over 4" (record size around 6").

Colombian tetras are great size. Not that blue yet, but they color up quick when they're this big.

Barbs, Danios & Relatives
Florida-bred green tiger barbs are finally back in stock. These have a different look than the imports, with the green a little shinier. Black ruby barbs are big and have great color. Giant danios and gold zebra danios are big and nice. Albino and veil cherry barbs got a little smaller but they both still look pretty good. Regular cherry barbs are imports now and they're very small.
Import red panda barbs get a little redder every day. They're pretty good size and the courting males should be showing very good color when they settle in to your tanks. Gold neon rosy barbs look great. Still have some purple rasbora hets in stock. These have a very different look than the black rasbora hets which have typically been interchangeable in the past.

It's a rare week when I have something new in this category. I actually have a couple fish that I haven't seen in a while. Florida-bred redtail black variatus are in stock. They have a crazy bright green sheen over the black body, and nice red/orange fins. Blue coral platies are also in stock this week. The coral types typically stay smaller so I'm not sure these will get much bigger. Very dawn platy like, and very nice.
Some other platies that stand out include bumblebees, red tiger mickeys, candy cane mickeys, and XL assorted platies.
Florida brick swords are back in stock. As usual, they're a lot bigger than imports and have a lot more males. Velvets and velvet wags are a little small but with good color. Got plenty of import firecracker swords and vampire swords too.
Red tux guppies are still the best looking guppy here. The tricolor and red dragon dumbos look great too. Assorted lyretails, midnight, and laserbeam guppies are all nice as well.

New World Cichlids
Lots of fun Florida-bred stuff in this category. Laetacara araguaiae are in stock for the first time. This is one of the smiling acaras, related to the curviceps and dorsiger. Since you'll never sell this as Laetacara araguaiae I'd suggest pastel smiling acara as a common name. These are even smaller than curviceps and fully qualify as a dwarf cichlid. Max size isn't much over 2.5", closer to 2" on females. They are small, peaceful, and have fantastic color. I suspect they have a great future in the hobby.
Red-striped severums are in stock again. Another Florida-bred fish. They're noticeably different than a green severum at this size, and as they grow it'll be even more obvious. They're not showing much in the way of red stripes, but they are already getting a lot of color in the fins.
Geophagus sveni are also in stock for the first time. I have a pic below but you should do a Google image search. They're small and very not impressive now, but they are one of the better looking fish in the genus when they mature. And they're one of the smaller fish in the genus so they have color at a smaller size. While they get up to 6", that's half the size of some related eartheaters. And they'll show good color at half that size. Adults are stunning red and blue striped fish.
Redhead Tapajos eartheaters are also available this week. Another mid-sized Geo, they also get around 6", and also color up at a smaller size. The set that just came in is pretty small so you're still going to have to wait for color, but it's worth being patient with this fish.
If you want color now I have some amazing 3" electric blue acaras. These are Florida-bred fish and have much better color than the little imports on my list.
Some of my common Florida fish that look good this week include gorgeous medium salvinis, decent size convicts, black convicts, and jacks, and select green severums. Size is terrible on the firemouths but I have them. Rainbow cichlids are back in stock but also very small, at best 1.5".
Plenty of less common Centrals in stock too. Argentea, zonatus, true midas cichlids, and trimacs are all very nice size. Cuban cichlids are decent size but they may have some minor conformation issues. Honduran red-points look really good too. 3" chocolates are oversized and nice. Red Warrior kampfa cross flowerhorns look OK and they're going to look amazing when they grow up.
Atabapo red pikes are in stock again. None of them are bright red right now but they'll keep getting brighter as they grow. Regular pikes are great size this week, fantastic value. Still have a few wild festivums too.
Longfin oscars that came in a few weeks ago from Indo look better every week. The fins get a little longer and less ratty. Still have a bunch of awesome red chili oscars and plenty of lemon oscars. Also have a bunch of Singapore discus that look great.

Lots of big fish in stock this week for me to pick from for SuperZoo. XL fuscotaeniata are amazing (and super limited). Males in full color. Got plenty of large peacocks (which include peacock/hap crosses) with great color. Large OB peacocks are super nice. Still have insane OB red empress. Been here a couple weeks and not fading at all. Also have OB arrow haps with amazing color. Lots of 'assorted Malawi fish' hybrids too. I'm probably going to have a lot left here that's going to be big and super colorful but I can't say what it is other than OB pea-hap. Awesome fish for your customers that just want big and pretty.
Acei are finally back in stock. Great looking fish that's had spotty availability. Get them while you can. Back in stock with nice cobalt zebras too. Got in new red zebras. They're nice fish but not red, kinda washed out. They'd be perfect if they were creamsicle zebras instead of red zebras. Some other mbunas that look good include oversized albino zebras, auratus, snow white socos, marmalade cat fuelleborni, and a few avanti zebras.
Still sitting on some great looking Vics. I've got a mess of ruby greens and super nice Uganda fire haps. Both of these have colored up males but there are females and subdominant males in the tanks. The nyererei are mostly males, and even the subdominant males have plenty of color. On top of that they're running really big. Also have plenty of crazy rare piceatus left. This is a holy grail kind of fish for some of your customers.

Got in some domestic cories with size this week. I have medium paleatus that are perfectly acceptable, especially compared to most of what I've seen of the last few years. Also have large panda cories that look great and are about the same price as the tiny 'regular' size. Far-east albino paleatus are small but they have a neat pattern of pearly white over the pink body. Far-east sterbai are great size, biggest tank raised cory here.
The wild melanistus cories are even bigger, one of the biggest cories I've ever seen here. They're super limited, but I wanted to share the pic even if I can't fill too many on orders this week. Julii are still good size and solid. Arcuatus are small. Lots of pygmaeus and they seem to be holding up. Any other wild cory on the list is extremely limited.
Same pleco selection again; fortunately they're nice. I have plenty of Colombian zebras, Colombian snowballs, green phantoms, royals, bushynose and a few blue panaques.
Still have a ton chameleon whiptails and they look great. Been here several weeks so they're very stable. Pictus cats, four-line pims, zamora cats and Lima shovelnose all look good too. Banjo cats are huge this week. BB cats are in stock but a bit small.
Restocked on some Florida tank-raised Synos. I have a bunch of new Syno multipunctatus, plus more of the jaguar synos that are multi-like but not pure. I also have a new black panther syno, another Florida hybrid. All three of these are right around 1.5". My other Florida Synos are running big. Angelicus/eupterus hybrids are super nice and big, over list size. Decorus are running big too and are starting to get dorsal streamers.
Dojo loaches that came in last week are looking good. The regular (brown) dojos are very nice size. The gold dojos are very small. Both of them are neat fish, and super responsive. They'll feed from your fingers in no time.
Giant Melanistus Super limited, don't build your order around these.
Pygmy Cories
Medium Paleatus Cory
Large Panda Cories
Sterbai Cory These are always far-east tank-raised fish, so I don't have to worry about whether or not I can ship them next week.

Syno angelicus/eupterus
Dojo loaches are pretty good size.
Gold dojos are terrible size.
Other Fish & Stuff
Samurai gourami are in from Indo. This is a chocolate gourami relative. Unlike the chocolate gouramis they are relatively hardy. We keep them in hard water and feed them flake food. You'll need to put them in soft acidic water to breed them but they'll hold up fine in hard water. They're peaceful fish that will do well with small schooling fish but are likely to be stressed by big rambunctious tank-mates. A good fit for most nano fish.
Florida pink kissers are back in stock again. Always one of the most popular fish in the store even though they get big and probably a better table fish than tank fish. Gold gouramis are OK size and have good color. Albino paradise are OK size too. Blue paradise are imports this week with great color. Still have a few of the super nice red paradise fish as well. Also have import red honey and gold honey gouramis. Red honeys are bigger, but the golds are brighter.
Ran through all of the medium boesmanis this week but I'm hoping to have more Monday. Blehri rainbows look great mostly because no one knows what they are so they sit here forever and get big. Kamakas, medium yellows, crimson spots, and neon dwarf rainbows all look good too.
Some other odds and ends that look good include transparent knives, a couple sizes of arowanas, black ranchus, humphead glassfish, gardneri killis, arrowhead puffers, and 3" clown knives.
New shrimp are in from Indo. The red rilis are big and nice. Bloody Mary shrimp are great size with deep red color. Hinomaru shrimp are one of the smallest ones here but they have neat intricate red and white patterns.

SALTWATER/CORALS
The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc.
Effective February 1, 2019 Pictures for freshwater DOA claims are REQUIRED. DOA credits will no longer be approved if there are not accompanying pictures. This is to see the bag sizes, water quality at arrival, if heat/ice packs are present, etc.
Just snap a picture of the bag with your cell phone as you're putting the bags in the tank to float and that will work and should only take literally 10 seconds per bag that contains losses. These will help us to figure out why they arrived DOA and how to prevent it in the future. It is preferred that you email the pictures to your rep, but you can also text them into your rep as well. Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
SALTWATER DOA POLICY: All Saltwater DOA need a clear picture of the fish out of the bag on a cooler lid from your shipment and emailed to your sales rep the day or day after your shipment arrives. Any fish lost in shipment will be credited if you follow that easy instruction. Fish that die overnight are not creditable unless they arrive in very rough condition (basically dead) and you notify us of the condition with a clear picture of the issue the day it arrives.
