Hey Folks,
Sorry I have to start off with bad news, but this is the last email you'll be getting from me. After 16 years here I'm moving on to a position on the dry goods side of the business. I never expected to writing this email until I was ready to go back to being a snake and lizard farmer, but got an opportunity that I can't pass up.
Thank you very much for all of your support over the years. Like any job there have plenty of ups and downs over the years but I'm grateful for the opportunity I had at Nautilus. I know some of you are still customers that I took care of a decade and a half ago, and I appreciate you giving me a chance. Especially considering how terrible I was at the job when I started. If you haven't done phone sales I can tell you it takes a lot of practice to get good. Thanks to my customers, and thanks to my bosses, for sticking with me when I was working hard to learn the job. Fish knowledge was never an issue but it took some time to learn other parts of the job.
I am staying in industry, just moving on from the livestock side of the industry. So I hope I'll see some of you (maybe?) at SuperZoo, or Global Pet. Pretty likely I'll end up at some consumer shows too so maybe we can catch up at Aqua Shella, or the Daytona National Reptile Breeders Expo. Or you might find me at Punk Rock Bowling, or the next time Dillinger Four is playing a punk rock show anywhere in the US. If you want to keep in touch I'm not hard to find on LinkedIn. And I expect I'll update that with the new position sometime in the next couple of weeks.
I hope to continue contributing my time to groups like USARK and Pet Advocacy Network. I expect Nautilus will continue to send out important industry news to all of you in the future. If you're not supporting these groups please consider it. I know lots of people have the attitude of 'these bans never pass, I'm not worried about it'. They never pass (so far) because a lot of people put in a lot of work to keep that from happening. We can use a lot more help in this area, be it financially, or with time, or with educating your customers. You'll get one last plug from me here; exotic species aren't invasive if they stay in their tanks, so be sure you tell your customers to never release their pets.
We're lucky enough at Nautilus to have a new sales manager who came on board at the beginning of the year. Dave's getting a lot more on his plate a lot faster than any of us expected but he's been doing a great job and I know he's up to the task of keeping things going in a great direction at Nautilus. If you deal with Nick or Steven you know they're among the most knowledgeable guys in the business, and Destiny and Karen are learning fast under Dave's direction. It's not like many of y'all talk to me much anymore since I'm all wrapped up in box store stuff, so your emails will be the only thing that's likely to change from your perspective. That, and the staff have a big task with trying to match all of the stupid common names I've made up over the years.
Once again, a sincere thank you. Lots of exciting things coming at Nautilus, and I really wish I was here to see the growth.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Director of Sales & Marketing

Lots of tetras running large this week. The fantastic Orange Von Rios from last week's email are still just as nice, but I didn't want to keep the same pic on here twice in a row. Penguin tetras, Diamond tetras, Silver Hatchets, Serpaes, and Ember tetras are all running larger than normal. Jumbo Neons are as big as neons can possibly get so you can buy those with confidence. Rummynose are also holding up well for us this week so hopefully those are still good to go by the time orders start packing next week.
4 Inch Flagtail Prochilodus from Colombia are still here and looking solid. We are also somehow still sitting on a handful of the extremely rare "Kaleidoscope Tetras", so if you were thinking about picking some up, this might be your last chance. Also have a handful of the Sailfin Tetras still here, another oddball and much more rare tetra. This group of them is really good size too, some of the best we've ever had.

Biggest penguin tetras we've ever seen, Pen cap for reference. |

Silver Hatchetfish are running large |

Ember tetras are looking great this week and a very underrated nano fish. If they were called Ember Rasboras we wouldn't be able to keep them in stock |
|
|
Pacu are bigger than normal |
|
|
Bloodfin tetras are always popular and back in stock |

This week we got a new tank of Longfin Tiger Barbs, and they look good as always. The long fins on a tiger barb really help chill them out a fair bit, and they're less nippy and aggressive than a normal tiger barb. I guess they abide by the old "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" adage. Speaking of longfin barbs, we do still have the longfin rosy barbs in stock as well. Those were impossible to get for a long long time, and now that they're back into the rotation of Florida farmers hopefully they stick around this time.
Rasbora hets look well above average this week. it's not that they're particularly large (I'd say they're slightly above average size) but the color and activity level of them is outstanding. They just have the look of a tank full of top notch super healthy fish, if you know what I mean.
Chili rasboras are back in stock this week too, but we didn't get many and I expect them to sell out Monday. Don't base an order around packing wednesday and ordering 200 chili rasboras, it likely won't get filled.
Snakeskin barbs and Checkerboard barbs are both restocked and also look above average this week. Gold barbs are Florida bred and also well above average.

Gold barbs are great size again this week |

A lot of guppies are fantastic right now. I love the mixed dumbos, there's a wide variety of colors in there and they have nice big tails like the cobras always have. Red Panda are probably the nicest looking of all of them, they have that "albino koi guppy" look that everyone seems willing to pay big bucks for from Czech shipments.
For swordtails, we got a new batch of pineapple wags, and the color is nice but the bodies look a little weird (see pic below). I Doubt your customers will care of even notice though so it's probably fine.
Mollies this week didn't change much from last week at all, so your best bets are going to still be the gold dust (both the normal and LT are nice) and LT Dalmations. The LG size are also pretty decent across the board with the exception of the Black LG which is maybe a tad undersized.
Platies that look best include the new Blue MM, Sunset MM, and painteds. Red Tiger and Bumblebee bot hare very nice too for the higher-grade platies. The XL size is out of stock right now but supposed to be coming back in on Sunday, so if you want the big ones let your rep know and we likely will be able to fill them on your order even without them being on the list this week. |

New Angelfish are here! First time we've ever had this strain, they are called Bulgarian Greens, but please note these are NOT the same as Bulgarian Green Sealpoints. I've got pictures below of the fish we have for sale as well as a picture of their dad. I think they're going to be extremely nice when they grow out.
We got a big flowerhorn from one of our local breeders that had too many males and wanted to get rid of this guy. We're calling him a "Peach Cobbler" flowerhorn. Don't bother googling that, we made it up since all the flowerhorn names are so stupid. You can buy it and call it a "Gold Base Super Red Calico Monkey Dragon" if you think that's what it's supposed to be called. Again, only a single fish available so WYSIWG.
The big Cuban cichlids sold really well, so we got in some more this week at a slightly smaller size (4 inch instead of 5 inch). Still look really good, one of my favorite central american cichlids (although, they I guess are almost North American, technically? Cuba's only 90 miles from Florida).
Medium sized green terrors are back in stock for the first time in almost a year i think. Solid size, 3 inches or so, and have good color. They'll sell out really really fast, so don't be upset if you get zero'd on them if your order packs Wednesday or Thursday. |
|

Bulgarian Green Angel. Note these are NOT SEALPOINTS. This is a different strain entirely. The adults get a nice greenish sheen on them. |

Restocked on the regular and medium fancy assorted mbunas, and still have more of the larges. These have a much better variety then the standard assortments, and are a good way to spice up your existing assorted tanks. For haps we got in medium OB jungles, these are a mix of a whole bunch of different strains but like most of our medium and large peacocks/haps they’ll still display very nicely. If your looking for the best fish to use as a centerpiece or as an addition to a big existing tank you should be getting the large OB redstratus. These are the biggest peacock/hap we have and are super impressive in person. Mix medium OB peacocks came in, these have a good selection of colors and each one is nice and unique to make it easy for your customers to pick out the exact fish they want you to chase down with your net. |

Fancy medium Mbunas have a lot of really nice elongatus and other less common species in the mix |

There's no end of fish to point out in this category right now, thankfully. It's been a rough last couple of months with Colombia being almost entirely shut down to collection, but now that the flow has opened back up there are finally several wild cory catfish available at the same time this week! Punctatus, Brochis, Agassizzi, and Skunks are all looking solid and size is more than solid on all of them. For my money, I like the Agassizzi most, they have a little bit of greenish color on top while also having the nice speckled look of a julii that most customers seem to like. The Brochis are gigantic and very bright green (sometimes traded as "Emerald cory cat").
Other catfish that got restocked from Colombia involve all the staples like Otocinculus, Pictus cats (both types), Raphael Cats (both types), and Farlowellas. I don't need to say much about these, you know you need them.
For plecos we got a lot of green phantoms to buffer the numbers we already had, as well as a restock on the small sized Royals that had ran out last week. Colombian snowball and zebras are both plentiful as well. |

Best rainbows for the money this week are shockingly going to be the Australian rainbows. These are hybridized Florida bred rainbows that I think 20 or 30 years ago got their lineage mixed, but the outcome is still a decent looking fish. They're SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the pure strains, and this week they're running quite large and the males have full color (a nice shiny purple with red fins).
Fire eels sold out and got restocked again within the same week. The new batch is the same size, 6-7 inch on the list but most are on the higher end of that, maybe closer to 8 inches. Spotted puffers and archer fish are two more nice Asian imports that are looking good right now. We keep these in freshwater but do put a cup of salt in there to slowly dissolve over time and bump the salt content up a little to keep them more comfortable and that seems to work well. It's a strategy I'd recommend you use in your store too.
All of the dwarf gourami types are in stock this week and all look exceptional. To be frank, the neon blue dwarf gouramis and powder blues are some of the most colorful freshwater fish in the hobby. Red Fire are also fantastic, solid bright red color. All of them are full grown, like they always are. . |

We got plenty of orange rabbit snails restocked this week, and we also have a ton of "assorted rabbit snails" as well. The assorted ones are a mix of shell type and body color, but be aware some are not true rabbit snails, they're the very similar "faunus" snails. You probably won't care about that, but just letting you know now because we've had customers in the past order them and be unhappy they weren't all the same scientific name they were expecting.
For shrimp we did get more this week than last week, with the additions of Pinnochio, Bloody Mary, and delux mix. |

Gold Mystery Snail are the biggest snail this week |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
