Hey Folks,
Colombia is in stock again this week with some fun stuff that I haven't seen in a while. Also got a handful of new Florida fish, an Indo shipment, and the normal stuff from Singapore and Bangkok.
Before getting to the new fish I have a quick industry news update and it's not good. This may not impact you if you only do aquatics, but I know a lot of you also deal with herps. There's been a recent change in enforcement of regulations for lightbulbs from the US Department of Energy. This is having a huge impact on reptile bulbs, which ended up being classified for general use even though they clearly are not. So there's a lot of bulbs that are critical for proper herp care that can't be sold right now. Please look at the update from USARK and please follow the instructions there to comment.
Blue panaque plecos are back in stock from Colombia. In spite of it's common name this isn't a panaque species, it is Baryancistrus beggini. Interesting story behind the name, they're named after the owner of Aquatic Critter (hi Chris) who helped mentor one of the scientists that described the fish. So make sure you're doing what you can to help out people getting into the hobby and some day you could have a fish named after you. You're going to have to be patient with this fish as they don't live up to their name when they're fresh imports. They're going to be nothing but grey when you get them. But with clean warm water and plenty to eat and they will turn blue. It's not a solid blue fish but a very clear blue flush over the whole fish, most noticeable on the fin edges. Get them now because when they're here for a few weeks and I get a picture of them showing good color then they'll sell out. These are omnivores and need both veggies and meaty foods in their diet. One of the smaller Baryancistrus types, their max size is 3-4".
Ossa knives are in stock from Colombia. A great fish for your customers that are night owls, these fish typically spend all day doing absolutely nothing other than laying on their side on the bottom of the tank, making you think that they're dead. Put a sign on their tank saying 'I'm still not dead' or your customers will bug you about it every day. This isn't exactly the best selling point for this fish, but in the plus column they are pretty good size, have a neat pattern, aren't jerks like a black ghost or brown ghost, and are a good value. And I'm exaggerating a little about how much they don't move. At least once they've settled in. You won't see them do anything during the day for months, but at some point they acclimate to tank life and will wake to up to eat bloodworms or other inverts. I suspect they'll take to pellets as well, but we usually stick with bloodworms for the fresh imports since they're highly palatable. Fishbase gives a max size of over three feet for this fish, but they're unlikely to get more than half that size in an aquarium. Unlike many of the more common species of knife fish these guys get along fine with each other. They are prone to getting picked on so don't mix them with nippy fish, even if the knife fish are a lot bigger..
Big news on the plant side of our business. Our plant list has been real stagnant for a long time. Frankly this goes back over a decade to previous staff here, and there always seemed to be more critical areas for improvement. The plant list about doubled in size this week. I've got a bunch of new bunch plants, more 'plants in cups' options, a few new plants on mats, and lots more. Make sure you check out the new list.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Director of Sales & Marketing

Lots of fantastic tetras this week including several new ones to the list we haven't had in a bit.
Flagtail Prochilodus are back in stock from Colombia, and I know a few of you have been waiting on these. The size is about 4 inches, and the tails look good. This is a great schooling fish to keep in with larger more aggressive CA Cichlids.
The best hands down are the Orange Von Rios, which are huge and colorful. Every store needs a tank of these from us next week. The embers are also big and beautiful, almost full grown (1 inch). This is a great nano fish that gets overlooked a lot since it's not a rasbora.
From Colombia we got a restock on silver dollars and bleeding heart tetras, and the bleeding hearts are even on special for you this week. Those are a great larger sized tetra for people that want somethign a little bit nicer than a normal tetra.
We also have another new tetra for the category this week, a "Hi Fin Diamond" Tetra. I'm 90% sure the only difference is that the breeder picked out males only and sent that to us without any females and called them hi-fin, but whatever the case may be they're big and have awesome fins and color. We should have a price for them on the monday email, as of right now we haven't made an item for them yet since they're brand new and just showed up. |

New "Hi-Fin Diamond Tetra". I'm pretty sure it's just a batch of all males, but will probably be on the Monday pricelist as Hi-Fin. Either way, they're big and look great |

Orange Von Rio is the best looking tetra you could order this week |

There's a massive size difference on the normal tiger barbs so I wanted to point that out in a photo below. A lot of weeks the regular and medium are basically interchangable, but this week the mediums are twice the size of the tiny regulars. The green tiger barbs are very small too, same size as the normal regulars, so just be aware of that when ordering.
Also have a big size difference on the cherry barbs. We actually took the standard cherry barb off the list because we were so unhappy with the size on them. Luckily though the veiltails are absolutely fantastic, so don't feel bad about paying a little extra for those this week. |

We took the normal cherry barb off the list this week because this is how tiny they are (left). |

Tiger barb sizes this week. LG is top, Medium is middle, regular size is on bottom. Regulars are awful size, mediums are the best for the money, and larges are truly huge and impressive for those that want the best fish for sale. |

This is the size of the green tiger barb (less than an inch) |

One new livebearer on the list this week, a fish we actually have been missing when we updated the list every week for the past month, a "Coral Red" Platy. These are extremely nice, we got them on the Israel shipment a while back. These fish are solid, super healthy, and have the deep velvet red color that people love from the Florida bred velvet swordtails. These should be a big hit with any of your customers that like to breed livebearers at home and like to have fish that are nicer than the common fish seen everywhere.
Best mollies this week would be the marbled mollies that are on special. These have a really nice orange tail on all the males. I also really like the Panda Lyretails, which are gold and black with big tails. Also have a handful of nice large gold sailfins.
Guppies mostly sold out like usual this week, but we will have a restock early next week so should have plenty to sell. The ones that look best are the red pandas, mixed cobras, mixed dumbos, and red dumbos. The laserbeam are also pretty nice for a bright yellow one.
On platies, they're all pretty much the same size, so nothing standing out as far as size, so the highlights are the ones that have the best color which would be red tux, painted, rainbow, and dawn. Also the sunset variatus are extremely bright right now too.
Swordtails that stand out include the koi's (which actually have more than 3 males in the tank of 100 for the first time in recorded history) and the florida bred green swordtails. The greens have nice speckled colors on the males that everyone seems to like. |

Lots of exciting larger CA cichlids available this week! We have 5 inch versions of Cubans, Jaguars (Managuense on the list), Salvini, and Umbi's. All are fairly limited of course, so don't wait to order until Wednesday at 4PM and expect us to fill an order of 6 of each, but for stores with orders packing monday or tuesday we probably can fill a decent number for you.
We brought back in the extremely rare Dwarf Severum again (we got the first batch ever about 2-3 weeks ago). These sold out on Monday last time, so order accordingly. I think we bought every one of them available from the supplier, so don't sleep on them if you're remotely interested.
From the far east, ballon rams, electric blue rams, and electric blue jacks are all restocked, so should be good on those for next week too.
From Colombia, we got a good number of wild caught oscars, and if you've never tried them before I'd highly recommend it. They're fairly priced compared to the tank raised ones, and they act so much different they're almost different fish. The wild ones have 3 times the energy of the lazy tank bred oscars. |

We do still have a good selection of large, colored up all-male peacocks and haps, especially OB varieties.
For smaller fish, we do have some phenomenal regualr sized Ahli and Red Empress. Both are "regular" size but both are running large, closer to 3 inches. The Ahli are actually colored up males already, it's a ridiculously good deal buying those.
Strawberry peacocks have a fresh batch that's looking nice and ripe. These are a beautiful pink fish that will turn red when they get bigger and the natural color overtakes their hormones they've been crammed full of over in Asia. The assorted 2 inch juiced import peacocks are also still looking very nice, and while they will fade fairly quickly, it's a good fish to carry because people like cheap colorful fish. |

Lots and lots from Colombia restocked that everyone has been waiting for. The staple fish that only come from there are all back in decent number thankfully. Otos, pictus cats, raphael cats, bushynose plecos, zebra and snowball plecos, farlowellas, and colombian sharks are all restocked. You need all these in your store at all times.
The other main standout from Colombia are the Punctatus Cory Catfish. It's been a few months since we got a good number of ANY wild cory cats in here, so it's a welcome sight to see tanks full of these. The price is good, size is great.
We also got some nice fancier plecos for the first time in a while too. Joe did a paragraph up top about the blue panaques so I won't reiterate that, but we also got some flash plecos and 3 sizes of green phantoms. I'd recommend the mediums on the phantoms, they're only a little bit smaller than the larges so they're going to be your best dollar for dollar.
We dropped the price on clown loaches a few weeks ago to reflect the fact that we're only buying a 1.5 inch size now instead of the 2 inch that's listed on the stocklist. Luckily they are super healthy, nice fully bellies, so even though they're small they look great. Also imported this week are a huge batch of sewellia loaches AKA Reticulated Hillstream Loach. The big ones in here are the biggest i've ever seen, and the smallest ones are still big enough nobody's gonna complain. |

Best rainbows this week are pictured below, the medium turqs, medium reds, and featherfins if you want something a little smaller. I also like the regular yellows a lot more than the regular bosemani just so you all know.
For gouramis we have a ton of nice stuff this week. The highlight would be the platinums, which are a form of blue/opaline/gold gourami (all the same species just different color morphs). These used to be about $3 each and fairly small when we were importing them from Asia. Now the ones we bred here are finally ready to go, so the price just got massively cut and the size is triple what it used to be. Every store should buy some this week. I also have decent size opalines. For dwarf gouramis, try the neon red and blues if you haven't yet. They're just a brighter colored normal male dwarf gourami, with the color of a powder blue but the stripes of the normal. . |

Medium sized Turquoise Rainbow |
|
|
Featherfin Rainbow |
|

Medium Red Rainbows look fantastic. At least the males do. As you know, the females of these are just a boring coppery brown color. You will get both sexes when you order them. |

Opaline Gourami |

Platinum Gourami are now raised right here on our farm, so they're massive and cheap. Best gourami to buy going forward |

Shrimp, Snails & Other Inverts

Not much in the invert section this week, but we do have plenty of mixed color rabbit snails that seem to always be quite popular. Also have plenty of mystery snails but we didn't picture any since you know what those are. Also have both the red claw and panther crabs still in stock. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
