Hey Folks,
Looking forward to a full non-holiday week in the office next week. This week is one of the worst in a long, long time. Holiday weeks are always slow but it was worse than usual. So if you're busy you're doing something right, and if you're not you're probably inline with the rest of the industry right now. On the bright side it's already looking really busy for next week. FYI the stores that I've heard from that were open on Memorial Day did fantastic. You might want to remember that when planning for Labor Day. UPS is taking the day off so we'll be closed but order plenty the week prior and clean up when your competition is taking the day off.
In spite of the slow week it's still a great week for me because I have a fish I've never seen before. That doesn't happen too often anymore. I have kaleidoscope tetras in stock! If you've never heard of this fish that's because I just made up the name. Moenkausia pretoensis. They're somewhat reminiscent of red-eye tetras, but with a pinkish rosy sheen and some yellowish highlights. They're super active and I'd love to see what they look like in an aquascaped tank. Buy a bunch and send me pictures.
More impressive than the kaleidoscope tetras, I have new sailfin tetras. This is the nicest batch I've ever seen. They aren't all as big and nice (or as male) as the guy in the top pic, but they are consistently full bellied with fairly clean fins. This is a fascinating tetra, one that doesn't know how tetras are supposed to act. Cave spawning species with a loose pair bond, they're like an orphan tetra that was raised by Apistogrammas.
Rhinogobius zhoui is such a cool and popular goby that I don't even have to make up some BS name. At least I hope so. These are uncommon imports from China. They are small but you can easily see color on the fired up ones. This is a fish that would make a fantastic display in a big shallow tank with lots of rockwork as they'll be constantly displaying to each other.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Director of Sales & Marketing

Hit 100 degrees here this week and in the upper nineties just about every day so fish are growing fast. Some of my Florida fish that stand out include longfin serpaes, highfin black skirts, gold pristellas, Colombian tetras, diamond tetras, and white skirts. Albino glowlights are on sale this week and if you haven't tried them before now's a good time. They look really good over dark gravel. The body is more white the translucent body of the wild types. They'll display well with the pastel neon tetras which are great size right now.]
Some far-east fish that look good right now include ember tetras, rosy tetras, rummynose, emperors, green fire tetras, and very nice glass bloodfins. Not a traditional tetra, but they tank-raised hujeta gar are very good size and doing fantastic.
I already mentioned my two super cool new wild tetras up top. In addition to those I have coral red pencils that are coloring up, plenty of green neons, a few gold tetras, red phantoms with color, and good size bleeding hearts that are on sale again. |

Longfin rosy barbs are on sale this week. This fish hasn't been around for ages, thought they would sell better than they have been. Unfortunately they are heavy female so you're going to need to sell them in trios or you'll be stuck with a tank of brassy girls. They will have nice fins.
Large tiger barbs are still pretty good size and great value since they're on sale again. Some other Florida fish that look good include the Galactic Purple® danios, albino cherry barbs, albino veil cherry barbs, big brilliant rasboras, rasbora hets, pearl danios, and huge zebra danios.
For far-east fish, I still have plenty of kubotai rasboras that are one of the best nano-tank fish you can get. Also called green neon rasboras, and they earn that name honestly as they practically glow when they're settled in and happy. Still have plenty of Asian rummynose (and they're on special this week) and maybe a few galaxy rasboras. For bigger fish, the red panda barbs still look fantastic. Got in new snakeskin barbs late last week that are staring to show a lot of red. |

Forgot to get a pic this week but the XL assorted swords look great. Florida-bred, they're big with good color and plenty of males. Florida pineapple wags are nice too. Green swords are often overlooked as they're often mediocre but this batch has red stripes and black freckles.
Some platies that look good this week include blue mickeys, sunset mickeys, bumblebees, candy cane mickeys, dawn platies, and (almost platy) redtail black variatus.
Guppy selection wasn't great since Sri Lanka didn't come in but not a lot of fish going out so I still have stock. Green Moscows are pretty, but they're not consistent (see pic below). Silver dumbos are outstanding. Red corals, red pandas, laserbeams, and black Endler's all look good too.
In stock with gold, green and black sailfins in a large size, and they all look great. |

Wild festivums are in from Colombia. Very cool fish that used to be fairly common but doesn't come in very often anymore. Sometimes described as looking like a cross between a severum and an angelfish, and I don't think I can describe them any better than this. Their temperament is kinda between those two species as well. They'll do fine with bigger sturdy tetras, angels, gouramis, and other fish that get shoehorned into the stupid 'semi-aggressive' category. Still have plenty of wild pikes and a couple big and bright Atabapo red pikes too.
If you missed the quick Tuesday update you missed the Geo update. I restocked on small altifrons and red-head Tapojos, a couple of the most popular varieties. They're both gorgeous fish, but they're not now. They're nothing but silver till they get bigger. I also got some medium balzani with great yellow, and 4" heckeli that are already showing nice rows of pearly spots and some fin extensions. For even bigger fish I have 5"+ steindachneri red-hump eartheaters.
Salvinis are in stock in a number of sizes and they all look great. Very good strain where even the smaller fish are showing plenty of color already. Firemouths are in stock but still small. Green terrors are back in stock this week and the size got a little bigger (although not showing any color).
Still have all the severums you could want. The medium red-spot golds are fantastic. The small greens are on sale. The rotkeil (red-shoulder type) greens are a great value and might be the best looking type once they grow up.
Lemon oscars came in earlier this week. They're small but nice yellow fish already, and aren't showing any black speckling in the fins (at least so far). Chili oscars are in stock too and they are crazy bright. Some other far-east fish that look good include flowerhorns, platinum parrots, and blue tiger parrots. Blood parrots are in stock but don't have much color. |

I got nothing new here, and in looking over my pics I have a section of all hybrid fish. Florida cichlids are always all over the place in purity. I know this matters to some of your customers, while other customers are just looking for pretty fish. I'm not sure there's any conservation value to fish in glass boxes (outside of education), and people liking hybrid fish doesn't bother me. But I do believe it's critical to honestly represent them. So on that note, I have a couple of really pretty Vics in stock right now that are absolutely not what they're supposed to be. The 'zebra obliques' are big and pretty and cheap, but they're definitely a hybrid, likely obliquidens/zebra oblique. The 'ruby greens' look more like a nyererei cross than a ruby green. Conversely, the rock kribensis look like the right fish. They're big, colorful and on sale this week.
Most of my big colorful Malawi fish are crosses too. If you buy any OB fish that isn't an mbuna you know it's not pure as there's no such thing as OB haps/peacocoks in the lake. I have gorgeous OB red empress, OB red empress/rostratus crosses, and OB pea/haps that are mishmash of about any Malawi fish you can think of. I also have venustus that are likely a mix of a few different Nimbochromis types. Some mbunas that stand out include auratus, kennyi, EB johannis, acei, and snow white socos. |

Got in a small Colombian shipment this week that allowed me to re-stock on some staples. I'm probably in good shape on otos, farlowellas, pictus, and spotted raphaels.
Also got in more skunk cories and pygmy cories this week, plus I'm still sitting on some big beautiful julii. Might have limited numbers of gold/greens and big Brochis cats too.
Pleco selection as the same. I have a couple sizes of very nice green phantoms. Colombian snowballs and Colombian zebra plecos are both in stock and looking good. Still have a handful of small royals too.
Tank-raised bushynose are mostly crappy and undersized, but the longfin browns are very nice. By far the biggest type here. Except the large albinos which are huge.
Lots of nice Florida-bred Synos in stock right now. The 3" angelicus/eupterus might be the prettiest type. They make a great cichlid tankmate and plenty capable of holding their own with Africans. Panda Synos are like a budget multi; a great looking spotted Syno but with a lower price point than a pure multi (because pure mutlis are not prolific). The 3" assorted Syno is all spotted types and might be the best value on the list. 2" decorus aren't real impressive right now but they'll be one of the best looking varieties when they grow up and get a big banner-like dorsal fin.
Loach selection is the same. I have limited numbers of clow loaches, nice size tiger botias and redtail botias, dojo loaches, and 'Borneo Suckers' hlillstream loaches. |

Dwarf puffers are back in stock. They're OK size and always the most popular type. And they're an actual freshwater species. I also have some figure-8 and spotted puffers which are definitely not freshwater and they're going to chew the fins off of everything you house them with.
Another brackish fish, I still have some archerfish in stock. Been here a couple weeks and actually on special next week which I'm not sure I've ever done before.
Florida-bred gouramis got a little smaller this week but still way nicer than imports. I have good size blues, and pretty nice size opalines and golds. Pearl gouramis are tiny, skip them. Import red honeys are very small. All the import dwarf types are decent size and with good color, with the neon dwarf gouramis being the best and brightest.
Best rainbows this week are medium yellows, medium turquoise, Goyder Rivers, and kamakas. The featherfins are still very good size and look fantastic.
Some other odds and ends that look good include silver arowanas, 8" royal clown knives (on special), clown knives, brown ghost knives, albino bichirs, delhezi bichirs, rhino gobies, and fire eels. |

Some Florida snails that look good right now include golds, ivories, and blues. I might have jade snails next week.
Plenty of assorted rabbit (and rabbit-ish) snails in stock. Should have orange rabbits and lots of assassin snails too.
Red crystal shrimp are all Singapore right now and they're a lot better than the Indo ones. Cleaner white and crisper bands. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
