    News & New Items
    Hey Folks,

Exciting news! I'll be at Aqua Shella next week! First consumer show I've done since the old Aquatic Experience shows. I'll be there along with our sales manager Dave. Obviously I'm not selling to the public, but I thought we had to do these shows this year because of the Starfire Red® GloFish® angelfish launch coming up this summer. Most exciting fish to hit the market since the Starfire Red® GloFish® danio was released 20 years ago, and eclipsing the Starfire Red® GloFish® pristellas and Starfire Red® GloFish® tetras as the best looking GloFish® available. At least that's my take, everyone likes something different in the GloFish®.

Anyway, we'll be set up at the show to promote the Starfire Red® GloFish® angelfish to the general public. My hope is to build so much buzz about this fish that you have people lined up waiting at your store on the release date.

In addition to promoting the Starfire Red® GloFish® angelfish, we'll be at the Friday afternoon industry event. This is a small industry show with vendors set up, and exclusively for retail stores that are attending. If you're going to the show make sure you check out this link to get registered, and please stop by and say hi.

Longfin rosy barbs are back in stock this week and I'm as excited about this as any new fish in a long time. This fish was a staple of the Florida fish industry for decades but I'm not sure I've have Florida rosy barbs in the last five years. The longfin mutation is complicated, apparently not a simple recessive mutation so over time a lot of the strains ended up be being pretty bad, with fins barely longer than standard rosy barbs. This group of fish is clearly long finned, and they're small so I expect they're going to look a lot better as they get bigger. Color is really good on the males, females look like female rosy barbs but at least they have nice fins. Get these while you can, I expect there's a lot of pent up demand for this fish. Every import I've tried in the last five years has been very unimpressive.

Giant telescopes and orandas are in stock from Israel. First time I've had coldwater fish in from Israel in the last five years. These fish are so much nicer than any other goldfish I've been able to get in here for a long time. The size is fantastic. The conformation is good, although the telescopes do vary in the amount of telescoping. Color is great. These fish are very not cheap but I still expect them to sell out in a hurry.

Red chromides are new fish choice that's a little more of a geek fish. At least it would be if these were wild-type chromides, which are a grey/green kinda ugly specialist fish. They have been tank raised for decades and they are outstanding red and orange fish that should be more popular in the hobby. These are peaceful dwarf cichlids, probably more laid back than rams. They only get ~3", and are relatively social. They'll be out and about more if you have a school of dither fish above them, and any but the smallest rasboras or tetras will work with them.

Please give a call if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Tetras & Other Characins
Mid to upper nineties this week so the fish keep growing fast. Orange von rios and diamonds are the standouts today, and I put the diamonds on sale. Some other Florida fish that look good include glowlights, longfin serpaes, highfin black  skirts, gold pristellas, and albino silvertips.

I have new emperor tetras in stock from Indo. This used to a Florida fish, even longer ago than longfin rosy barbs. These Indo imports aren't big like they used to be from Florida, but they're not bad looking. Be patient with these and they will be one of the best looking tetras you can keep, with long tail fin extensions.

Plenty of my far-east imports are decent size too. Ember tetras came in big and nice, and penguins are huge. Glass bloodfins, green fire tetras, black emperors, and all-male Congo tetras all look good this week too.

I have terrible pacus in stock that you shouldn't buy. I guess if you're going to buy pacus get the albinos since they'll stand out to predators when your customers throw them in a ditch. In all seriousness, please don't stock these if you're not willing to take the fish back when they outgrow your customers tanks. And if you're going to sell them you should support places like Ohio Fish Rescue. Or give out recipes with the sale of pacus.

Sabertooth payara are in stock too. All of the species are pretty similar but these are likely scomberoides, and not likely to get as big as the stupid pacus, or the armatus payara. There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding max size for various species. The fish I get aren't likely to be three foot monsters like you'll see if go through Google images looking at payara. They're not going to be a small fish, likely maxing out somewhere around a foot long.

For more appropriate import tetras, I have really nice bleeding hearts. They're good size and showing good color, and there are a lot available. Still have some small green neons, gold tetras, coral red pencils, and red phantoms in stock too.

    Barbs & Other Cyprinids
Florida-bred large tiger barbs are in stock and on sale this week. Just not in stock in my pack room today so you have a picture of mediums below. They're good size and a really good value. Gold tetras are big and nice too, showing a lot of green. Pearl danios are back in stock but not real big. Some other Florida fish that look good include giant danios, albino cherry barbs, albino veiltail cherry barbs, rosy barbs, and brilliant rasboras. Black rubies are OK, red glass are pretty bad, and odessa barbs are terrible.

I'm back in stock with galaxy rasboras although I doubt I have enough. They're not big, but they are big enough to tell what they are. Checkerboard barbs may be available; not big they have some color. Red panda barbs are nice size, and roseline sharks are big too. Tinfoils and gold tinfoils are big as well.
    Medium Tiger Barbs
Large tiger barbs are on sale but theyre not here yet. They should be a little bigger than these mediums.
    Albino Veil Cherry Barbs
    Gold Barbs
    Gold White Clouds
    Galaxy Rasboras

    Livebearers
Tons of nice livebearers that came in from Israel, plus some nicer than usual Singapore fish.

For Israeli swords, the marigold twin-bars are new and look really good. The assorted large lyretail isn't particularly large, but a little bigger than what I usually get along with a good mix of color and a big dorsal fin. Florida swords are the highlight of this category today with big pineapples, marigold wags, greens, and red tux. All of these are big with nice color, and a ton of males.

Got a Hawaiian variatus on the Israel shipment. This is a really nice red-tail orange tux type. They big and solid and very pretty.

Some platies that stand out include pandas, white mickeys, rainbow platies, red crystal platies, and sunset mickey mouse platies.

Gold cobra guppies are my favorite guppies every time I have them but it's hard getting the color to show accurately. Viewed in profile in the water they really look gold, more so than anything else other than a gold tetra and these guppies didn't need to get a visit from trematodes to look like this. Red pandas, silver dumbos, red tux, purple luminous, red Endlers, and black Endlers are all very nice too.

    New World Cichlids
Atabapo red pikes are in stock this week. Barely. I have two pieces to spare so if you want one of these let your rep know ASAP. They're not the reddest red pikes I've seen but they have a lot of potential and should color up well as they settle in.

I also have regular pikes. Which is a catch-all name that encompasses about a half dozen different species that come in as 'pike cichlid'. If I remember correctly these are geayi, and they're going to be ugly and sit on the bottom and beat up on each other. Not the biggest or meanest pikes, they get maybe 8" and OK with fast or moderately aggressive tankmates that aren't other pikes.

Got some big Florida fish this week. 5" salvinis are all oversized and outstanding, and getting very limited. Even more limited, I have a few of these weird red devil flowerhorn mixes that desperately need a catchy name. Clown flowerhorn? Harlequin flowerhorn? At first glance they look very red devil-like but if you look closer you can see plenty of other influences.

Speaking of red devils, the 3" red devils are still oversized and very pretty. Some other Florida fish that look good include firemouths, Texas cichlids, Sonoran cichlids, salvinis, red dovii, 4" brasiliensis, electric blue acaras, and Florida-collected Mayan cichlids in a couple sizes.

German blue rams are a little but the color is fantastic. They like the hot weather. Electric blue rams are very nice too, and the gold balloon rams look great.

The import flowerhorns are super nice this week too. There's a few pieces that are really dark, like the guy in the picture below
    Red Pike
    Pike Cichlid
They're pretty consistent this week. Consistently ugly, but they are cool fish that are fun to keep.

    Old World Cichlids
Not a lot new here but there  are a lot of fish. The OB jungle haps are probably the biggest and nicest of all the crazy weird OB stuff I have. OB red empress are a big smaller but very bright, and they have a good name. Regular and medium blue dolphin moori both look good, lots of color in both sizes. Medium venustus are a bit oversized and a good value. Rock kribs look great and should be selling better than than do. They're not a Malawi fish but they can live with Malawi fish and they're cheaper than most of the same-sized mbunas.

Some mbunas that look good include new cobalt zebras, great size snow white socos that I put on sale this week, big BB ornatus, pearl zebras, acei, and huge 'medium' EB johanni.

Some of them have this crazy pearly sheen.

    Catfish and Loaches
Got in a lot more fish than I expected from Colombia this week, and I have more than a few Peru fish left over from last week, so this category is pretty full.

Large julii cories look fantastic. Large Brochis cats are outstanding and it's stupid that they've been here so long that I have them special this week. Gold/green cories are on special too. Lots of pygmy cories in stock and they look pretty good. For tank-raised cories, the albino paleatus are small but they're really cheap (cheaper than albino cories), and they get neat pearly splotches. Sterbae are a bit small, and whatever I have for greens/albinos/pandas are very small.

Green phantom plecos came in this week. They're small and not that green (or yellow) yet, but I do expect they'll be coloring up more by next week. Plenty of snowballs and zebras too, although they both got even smaller. Royals came in OK size. Wild bushynose are nice. Still have a few lingering adonis plecos from Peru, and some galaxias plecos from Colombia a month ago.

BB and banjo cats both came in this week and the size is decent. Some other import catfish that look good include four-line pims, pictus cats, zebra otos, farlowellas, Lima shovelnose, and Burmese sun cats.

Redtail botias are still big and nice and spikey. Probably have clown loaches available for sale this week, size isn't great but they're not undersized and they do have full bellies. The Pseudogastromyzon Chinese hillstream loaches are really nice, different pattern than the normal "Borneo suckers', and they might be a little more active.

    Hong Kong 'Borneo' Suckers

    Other Fish & Stuff
Still have pretty good numbers of 5" GloFish® sharks in lots of colors, I think all four colors this week. Thee are super impressive, especially the Cosmic Blue®.

Marble morays came in this week. Sometimes traded as a 'freshwater snowflake eel', it's better for you to treat these like the estuary fish that they are. They'll do best in a brackish tank. I keep them around 3ppt salt, but they'd probably appreciate a bit higher number. Can be tricky to get feeding, and often only want live ghost shrimp initially.

Platinum gouramis are in from Indo this week. Another fish that used to be Florida-bred, now I have to import them. They're very pretty, but the price point is a bit higher than the golds and blues. And the size is a little smaller. Nice fish but you shouldn't throw them in a mixed gourami tank or you'll lose money them. Also have some far-east sunset thick-lips (small), red honey gouamis (small) and gold honey gouramis (very small).

Florida blues and opalines both look pretty good. Pearls continue to be tiny, skip them. Florida blue paradise are big and beautiful, one of the nicest fish here. Albinos look pretty good. Red paradise are imports but still pretty good size and I have them on sale this week.

Featherfin rainbows are back in stock! They're pretty good size and super active, one of the best display fish. There are bigger and brighter rainbows but I'm not sure there are any rainbows that are more outgoing. Red rainbows look good if you only look at the males. Medium yellows and turquoises are very nice, and I have the turqs on sale again. I'll try for more boesmanis.

Peacock gudgeon gobies are back in stock but they are very small. Rhino gobies are small too but they're always small. A few other odds and ends that look good include 2.5" sarasa comets, tiger badis, dwarf puffers, clown knives, and silver arowanas.

    Peacock Gudgeon Gobies

    Shrimp, Snails & Other Inverts
Continuing to get plenty of mystery snails every week. This week ivories got a little smaller but still look good. Blues and golds are nice too. Plenty of import orange rabbit snails and assassin snails as well.

Borneo panther crabs are in stock and one of the coolest things here. Similar to the vampire crabs but more aquatic.

Shrimp selection is a little better this week. Hinomaru shrimp are the same ones I had a couple weeks ago but they do look better today than when they came in. Orange cherry and red cherry shrimp both came in pretty good size with nice color.
    Ivory Snails
    Panther Crab
    Hinomaru Shrimp
    Orange Cherry Shrimp
    Red Cherry Shrimp

    Saltwater Corals
The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.

In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals.  If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered.  If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too.  Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS.  Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc.
