    News & New Items
    Hey Folks,

It's a sad day for the aquarium hobby with the passing of Rosario LaCorte this week. I can't say I knew Rosario much more than by reputation. One of the greatest fresh breeders of all time, and by all accounts a fantastic person. Please take a few minutes to read this account at the Museum of Aquarium & Pet History.

Still sending a lot of fish out, and I have another good week for incoming. Shipments are in from Indo, Singapore, Bangkok, Sri Lanka, Colombia, and plenty of Florida fish.

I restocked on a bunch of the big OB peacock/hap/pea-hap assorted Malawi fish. If you think hybrid cichlids are an abomination just skip to the next paragraph. I used to feel that way, now I appreciate how spectacular these look. Consider all of these big fish hybrids even it's listed as an OB yellow-blaze or OB Lwanda. They have conformation similar to those fish and there is lithobate or Lwanda in their background, but they are definitely not pure. What they are is awesome, with crazy bright color. Some of the fish that came in as larges are a little on the small side, but they're beautiful and bright.

Tophat blennies are in from China. This is a freshwater blenny and unlike anything else in a freshwater tank. It's like getting the wonder of a saltwater tank in freshwater. They get their name from the casque on the top of their head, but it shrinks as soon as they go in a net for pics. These fish are found in fresh, brackish, and saltwater in the wild, but they're kept in nearly pure freshwater here with no issues. They hop around the bottom and will defend territories. A group of these would make a great display in a big tank, but it'll have to be pretty big to have more than a couple fish. These are grazing fish so make sure they get their veggies.

Sparkling gouramis are back in stock again. This might be my favorite of all the new fish but they're not as big and flashy as the OB stuff so they lost top billing this week. They are just about as flashy as the peacocks but in a tiny package. This is a very small and peaceful species, more like a wild betta than a big gourami. Their max size is about 1.5". They're a perfect tankmate for all the little nano rasboras that I've been getting recently.

For a legal update, thank you to everyone that emailed the Hawaii Land and Natural Resources in support of sustainable collection of ornamentals.

Please register at this link and then attend the webinar on invasive species and the pet trade. This takes place from 3:00 to 4:00 next Wednesday. Some world class participants involved like Sandy Moore and Josh Williard. Also I'll be participating. It's an important issue and an issue that we can do better at addressing. This webinar is put on by Pet Advocacy Network. If you're not a member you should be. If you're not a member but you still want to contribute to the Aquatic Fund you can do that too. There's real short list of distributors, manufacturers and stores that contribute to this, and if you're not on that list you should be. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Please give a call if you have any questions.

    Tetras & Other Characins
Not a lot of big Florida tetras but plenty of pretty nice size Florida tetras. Highfin black skirts are huge. Colombians, black phantoms, and longfin serpaes are good size. Serpaes vary day to day but mostly coming in pretty good size. Orange von rios, albino silvertips, glowlights, black skirts and white skirts are all decent size. Silvertips and longfin blushers are pretty small.

Indo all-male Congos are a little small but the color is great. Import penguin tetras came in fantastic size again. Balloon penguins are tiny but still adorable. Blind cave tetras came in yesterday and they're very small again. Green fire tetras are small and black emperor tetras are really small. Glass bloodfins, rummynose, and cardinals are all pretty good size.

Wild tetras are pretty limited which is expect this time of year. I do have plenty of nice gold tetras and some OK size green neons. Still have a few dozen Exodons that are great size and the best display fish you can have.

    Barbs & Other Cyprinids
Florida-bred gold barbs are back in stock and they are big and super bright again. Rosy barbs might be even bigger this week but still at best 50/50 male/female ratio. It's a very coppery tank. Red glass barbs got smaller and less masculine too. Albino cherry barbs are a little small but still look good and they're on sale. Pearl danios are also  and sale and pretty good size. Black ruby barbs are surprisingly colorful, but they are very, very small. Half the size of what I was getting a couple weeks ago.

Lots of variety with far-east cyprinids. Clown rasboras came in for the first time in months. These are very different than all the various nano rasboras that I've been getting. Clown rasboras get nearly 4" and they're pretty rambunctious. They're not likely to be fin nippers but they are pretty active. Also serious jumpers, they absolutely have to have a lid.

Kubotai neon green rasboras are really small and they have no color but they will be super bright and are one of the best nano fish you can get. And they're on sale this week. Asian rummynose are also on sale and they're decent size as well. Still have hengeli glowlight rasboras in stock, nice size for this fish which is still pretty small.

Checkerboard barbs, red panda barbs, snakeskin barbs, and roseline sharks all look good too.

I have some really nice swords to push this week, mostly Florida-bred. Red tux look great. I've mentioned them before but didn't push them too hard because I though I had a couple dozen. Found a vat this morning so I can say for sure that this is one of the best swords and I'm very likely to fill them all week. Pineapple wag swords are also nice size. Green swords are big and pretty, with lots of black spots. All of these are Florida-bred with a pretty good number of males. Green pineapple swords are also available this week and the price got corrected. These are Israeli fish and they are holding up great. Plenty of males in this tank too. I'm not sure these are much different than a neon sword but they are really nice. I also got in new calico sanke swords. Like usual, they're pretty but very small.

White mickey mouse platies are one of the best looking platies this week, and that might be the first time I've said that. Candy cane mickeys are a little small but very pretty. Yellow calicos, red wag, rainbows, and highfin pineapple mickeys are all very nice too.

Best guppies are the red dragon and green dragon dumbos. Some other guppies that look good include platinums, pink luminous, red cobras, and black Endler's.

Large black sailfin mollies are big and look fantastic. Gold panda lyretails are the best of the smaller (sphenops type) platies this week.

    New World Cichlids
2" red devils are back in stock and they're pretty much all red. It's not that exciting, but combine this with the fact that I have firemouths most days and jacks some days and convicts every day and now you actually have an assortment of Central Americans available.

3" red devils are way oversized and a much better value than the 2" but they're going to be harder to mix with other fish. Medium salvinis are nice size, and I should be getting in more medium carpintis over the weekend.

Gold severums are back in stock and pretty good size. Also re-stocked on 2" heckeli threadfin eartheaters.

Still have lots of the beani, haitiensis, and red dovii that I got last week. Not sure that my list price is correct on these so you may see an update on Monday.

If you need bigger fish I have a couple of the oversized 5" brasiliensis with nice color. I also have a couple of big istlanum, one single centrarchus that is the biggest one I've ever seen, and a gigantic pirate red devil that I can sell pretty cheap (it needs an eye patch on one side).

Might have some gaps on a few of my angels. I have some medium and some large black angels in stock now but when these are gone it's going to be a while before I restock. Large gold angels still look fantastic. The medium fancy mix is on special; might be shy on blacks and koi but should be full of nice fish.

Florida blue rams and gold rams are a bit small right now but still look good, especially the golds. Import electric blue rams are very pretty, and import Bolivian rams are great size. I have plenty of blue tiger and platinum parrots. Large uaru are Indo tank raised fish. Pretty small for a large but a lot bigger than the regular size. Albino oscars look pretty good. Lemon oscars are in stock but these are smaller and less colorful that what I usually get.

I have exactly one huge Atabapo red pike left. One of the best looking ones I've seen here, buy him now before I decide to save him for SuperZoo.

    Old World Cichlids
The highlight of this category (and the entire email) are the OB fish. You can't go wrong with any of these. The XL size is significantly bigger than the larges. The mediums and larges overlap a bit.

In addition to the OB fish I have a few albino OB red empress. First time I've had this fish and they are pretty impressive. They albino red empress retain so much red that they're gorgeous when in full color, and I expect these will be even better.

Standard Florida medium assorted peacocks were refreshed this week. Still have a few sunshines and red fires plus some stripey hap crosses. All showing natural color and definitely all male.

Back in stock with little livingstoni, venustus, ahlis, blue dolphin moori, and medium moori.

Lake Victoria pink piebald haps came in about a month ago and weren't real impressive but as they've grown they're looking a lot better. I assumed these all stayed pink but I have some dark fish in the tank so they seem to have multiple color varieties like the tricolor fulus. They're on sale this week.

For mbunas, I restocked on the fancy mix in regular, medium and large. These tend to be a little bigger than the standard mixes, and with some neat bright fish in the mix. Also got in bubblegum socos in a couple sizes. Super neat strain that's a pink and pale blue OB type. Yellow labs, albino auratus, snow white socos, EB johannis, and acei all look good too.

    Catfish and Loaches
Very little coming in for wild cories but I still have some nice skunk cories. Also have big and super bright Brochis cats. Your best bet for cories is to go with the tank-raised fish. Sterbai, julii, and albino paleatus are all looking good and holding up well. They are small compared to the wild fish but they're sturdy.

Incoming plecos are pretty much the same every week. I have new Colombian snowballs, Colombian zebras, and green phantoms. I do have some L240 vampire/toothnose/galaxias plecos left over from a couple weeks ago and they look fantastic. Also have a few Peru freckled plecos in stock. They're like a not yellow yellow-spotted pleco.

Spotted raphaels are small but on special. Striped raphaels are a little big bigger. I might have a couple dozen farlowellas, not on the list so tell you rep you want them. Four-line pims are nice size. Spotted pictus are limited but there might be a few available this week.

Lots of nice tank-raised Synos this week. I have Florida-bred jaguar Synos that are great size, and like a budget knock-off multipunctatus. Featherfin eupterus are oversized, and so are the outstanding eupterus/angelicus crosses. I do have some Indo petricola that might be the smallest Syno I've ever seen.

Got in limited numbers of tank-raised 3-3.5" bushynose plecos, and a handful of large albino bushynose.

    Other Fish & Stuff
Big fire eels are in stock, although they are super limited. Might have four or five pieces. Plenty of small zig zag eels. I also have three or four of the tiger morays. Still on special. This is a true freshwater moray.

Red honey gouramis are in stock again and they're some of the nicest ones I've ever seen. Very good size and very bright red. Gold honeys are nice too but less than half the size of the reds and not in adult color.

Florida-bred gold gouramis are back in stock. They're pretty decent size. Blues are a little bigger than the golds and they're on sale. Continue to skip the pearl gouramis, they're terrible.

Best rainbows this week are still the medium turquoise. Kamakas, medium yellows, and large Deepwater Creeks are nice too. Albino millennium rainbows are back in stock but not impressive. If you're patient they'll be beautiful but they have to get bigger before they look good. For smaller rainbows signifers and gertrudae look great.

Some other odds and ends that look good include platinum dwarf frogs, albino claude frogs, brown ghost knives, clown knives, large panda garras (still mixy in size), Asian needle gar, and leopard Ctenopomas.

    Shrimp, Snails & Other Inverts
I have a couple of new nerites this week. Fruit snail nerites came in and I feel sad for whoever named this if they think these look like fruit. Go with nubby nerite or something like that. Or if there's a reason they're called fruit snails that I don't know about let me know.

I also have red-spotted nerites in stock this week. A much better looking nerite than the blacks or zebras and just as good at eating algae. Also traded as onion snails. Which I guess is less stupid than fruit snail.

Plenty of orange rabbit snails and assassin snails this week too.

Florida mystery snails in stock include nice golds, ivories that are a little iron-stained, albinos, and a few blues (and probably more on Monday).

Shrimp selection is about the same. Red crystals are the best, might have a few orange fires, and blue velvets are deep blue but very small. Amano shrimp may be available, not sure. Check back on Monday.

    Saltwater Corals
The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.

In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals.  If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered.  If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too.  Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS.  Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc.
