Hey Folks,
Another Global Pet Show is in the books. Most years at Global feel a lot like every other prior year (old guys complaining about how much better fish sales used to be), but a little different buzz this year. At least at our display. Because the GloFish(R) Starfire Red(R) angelfish are spectacular. These were by-far the most impressive thing at the show. Wish I could have gotten them in the New Product Showcase where I'm sure they would have won the category. Look for more details as we closer to launch this summer.
The show seemed busy as long as I was by our tanks full of the GloFish(R) Starfire Red(R) angelfish but outside of that the traffic seemed down. In spite of that all the vendors I spoke with were pretty happy about the show. Friday is usually about chatting with other vendors, and lots of them are still optimistic about this year.
Thanks to Hagen and Zoo Med for showing off our fish in their tanks and sending some new customers our way.
The Tuesday before the show is when the board meeting for Pet Advocacy Network takes place. While I've been involved in a lot of Pet Advocacy meetings this was my first time sitting in on the board meeting. Look for more details soon but the big giant glaring issue is how few members they have. If you're not a member you should be. If you're not contributing to the Aquatics Defense Fund you should be. And if you're not Patrick at Absolutely Fish, Bill at B & B, or Jim at Pet World than you're not contributing. Special thanks to those three stores that not only contribute financially but also give a lot of time. And special thanks to both Hikari and Hagen, I think the only manufacturers that have contributed to the Aquatic Defense Fund.
Got in a handful of new fish and I have a ton more getting in here today and tomorrow. Gold neon rosy barbs are back in stock and look great. Wish I'd gotten a pic of these, they're super bright. A few other new import fish include EB jacks, rhino gobies, tiger barbs, a few sizes of oscars, big blood parrots, and fresh juiced peacocks. A couple of Florida-bred fish that came in over the weekend include super bright 3" red devils and even brighter medium EB acaras. I'm still expecting gold tinfoils, black ghost knives, new discus, and scarlet badis. Clearly my whole staff was feeling overwhelmed last week since they missed including the big, bold and beautiful Atabapo red pikes in the Friday email. These are outstanding, brighter than my picture shows. I also got in some wild severums from Colombia last week. Various other fish that stood out in today's walk-through include diamond tetras, orange von rios, highfin black skirts, black Endlers, blue mosaic guppies, 7-8" silver arowanas, and dwarf puffers.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
