Hey Folks,
Next week is Global Pet Expo in Orlando. If you're at the show make sure you stop by our display in the Aquatics Lounge. We will have the most exciting thing at the show, a new GloFish. This year is the 20 year anniversary for GloFish, and we're about to debut the best GloFish since the beginning. Make sure you check back on Monday for an update. If you're heading to Orlando for the show and are interested in stopping by the farm please reach out. We're an hour from the show if traffic is OK, a bit longer if I4 is a mess. I have true freshwater morays in stock this week.
In addition to the big GloFish news I've got exciting staff news. I'm no longer the sales manager here but I have a new sales manager. Dave Drake joined our team a couple months back and we're super happy to have him here. He joins Nautilus after nearly twenty years at Aquarium Adventure in Chicago, one of the premier retail fish stores in the country. It's great having someone here that's been on the retail side of the business so recently. I'm not going anywhere, but I'm spread too thin to drive the growth with independent retail that we need to see. Dave's a lot more likely to talk to you than I am, but I'll still be sending out the weekly emails (but with a little more help now). Been meaning to include this announcement for a while and since it's Global week and some of you may meet him, and since it's a been a couple months and he's got his feet under him (and doesn't seem like he wants to head back to the midwest) now seemed like the time.
Gymnothorax polyurnanodon is a true freshwater moray, documented hundreds of miles from the coast. These are very different from the 'freshwater snowflake' G. tile, hence why they're a lot more expensive. They're a great value this week since we ended up ordering quite a few more than I requested so get them at a great price while you can. Fishbase gives a max size of around five feet but that's the Shaquille O'Neal of tiger morays. Three feet is pretty good size for them. Like any other moray they're strongly predatory on smaller fish, but outside of being predatory they're not aggressive.
Restocked on a ton of big OB Malawi fish. Peacocks, haps, and 'pea-haps', these are all very mixed, and all absolutely outstanding. Kinda like the morays, I have more than I expected as I'm not sending as many to Global as I thought. So I've got the OB jungle haps on sale this week. This mix includes some Nimbochromis, so they're going to get quite a bit bigger. They get rows of red spots like you'd see in a 'stoni, and they have a ton of orange and blue already. Gorgeous fish that will just keep getting better as they grow. Gulper cats are in from Colombia. These are predatory cats with huge mouths but they're way better suited for life in a tank then the big migratory predators like tiger shovelnose.. They don't get that big so way easier to house than most big pims. Max size is around 10", but be warned that a 10" gulper cat can probably eat 10" tankmates. They're not aggressive at all, and they're slow-moving ambush predators, so they can be kept with bigger fish, just don't underestimate their ability to eat big fish. These are like the pac-man frogs of the fish world.
Please give a call if you have any questions. Please keep in mind I'm going to be out of the office most of the week, along with Dave and some of the reps due to Global. We'll get back to everyone as quickly as we can.
Thanks,
Joe Hiduke Director of Sales & Marketing Nautilus |

Orange von rios are by far the best Florida-bred tetra in stock this week. Big and bright, these should be on all your orders. Longfin serpae tetras are still coming in most days, and they look good. Size is OK, color is pretty good and fins are nice. Better than the imports I've had recently. A few other Florida fish that look good include big diamond tetras, highfin black skirts, and longfin blushers, and good size glowlights and albino glowlights (both on sale), head & tail lights, and red-eyes. Serpaes are back to being Florida-bred but they're going to be very limited.
Indo is in again this week so I've got some less common far-east farm fish. I'm back in stock with nice size black emperor tetras. They'd be terrible size if they were Florida fish but good size for imports. Same thing with the standard emperors. They're a fair bit bigger than they have been and look great. Got in a lot more cardinals, rummynose, and I might have a few albino rummynose. Also in stock with green fire tetras, glass bloodfins, and ember tetras. Black neons are all imports right now but the size is pretty good.
Gold tetras are in stock from Colombia. Small, pretty, peaceful and cheap, should be on every order. I should have some green neons available too, but they may be even smaller than usual. Red phantoms are small too with OK color, not great. They usually take a while before they color up. Bleeding hearts are big and nice. For bigger fish, I have plenty of flagtail Prochs, and I have pacus that aren't big yet but are getting bigger every day. |

I had albino and albino veil cherry barbs almost all week, and got more yesterday so I'm good for at least the beggining of the week, and hopefully all week. They did get a little smaller this week but still pretty nice. Much nicer than the crappy import cherry barbs I have. Red glass got less colorful this week. They look OK but not a must have like they've been for the last couple of months. Standard rosy barbs have outstanding males in the tank but it's less than 50% male. No regular tiger barbs but lots of nice mediums in stock right now. Brilliant rasboras are good size and on special but the conformation is wonky on some of them. Scissortails are back in stock but the size is terrible. Odessa barbs are in stock but the size is terrible and the color is worse.
Kubotai neon green rasboras are in stock from Indo. One of the best nano fish that exists, they are tiny but super bright. Or I should say super bright when they settle in. They're going to be small and silver when you get them. They never get big but they'll get bigger and they will crazy bright green. Similar to a galaxy rasbora in care; small and well suited for a species tank or as a shrimp tankmate.
I have gold roseline sharks on sale at a pretty significant discount. They are very small, and by gold roselines I mean gold-ish. There are some golds, some splotchy ones, and some that look pretty close to normals. I'm told they all turn gold but I'm also told some of them end up getting darker again as they get bigger. Probably not worth the normal list price but worth trying on special.
Asian rummynose are still fantastic size. They're not full color but they have color which isn't usually the case here. Unlike most of the nano-cyprinids these are not from soft acid water. These are Lake Inle fish and they do well in hard basic water.
Some other import cyprinds that look good include galaxy rasboras, chili rasboras, checkerboard barbs, snakeskin barbs, red panda barbs, platinum green tiger barbs, and tinfoil barbs. |

Back in stock with some Florida swords this week. Neons are pretty nice, not much more colorful than imports but there are more males. Pineapples also have plenty of males, and they are big and bright. Red (brick) tux may be the best looking sword but they are limited. I also have limited numbers of import kohaku swords that are pretty but nearly all female, and very pretty sanke swords that are mixed sex but they are small.
Back in stock with bumblebee platies. They are nice but a little different this week, with a blueish sheen on a lot of them. Dawn platies are still big and bright. Yellow calicos are outstanding. White mickeys and sunset platies are both a little small but both of them look great.
Gold sailfin mollies didn't sell out so they're still the best molly. Gold panda lyretails still look really good too.
I have no update on what guppies look good because there's almost no guppies left. Sri Lanka didn't come in last week so I ran out of guppies early. Scheduled for this weekend so hopefully I a lot more to say about guppies on Monday. |

Firemouths are back in stock! Seems silly to be so excited about this fish but they haven't been around for a while. The size isn't terrible, and the color is really good. Convicts and pink convicts are both nice size. Texas cichlids are carpintis crosses and look pretty much like the tiny EB carpintis I have but cheaper.
Gold severums are in stock this week. There's barely any difference between the regular and select size so you should just get the cheaper fish. They're not that colorful but starting to get some nice yellow/orange in the fins.
Back in stock with regular size heckeli threadfin eartheaters. One of the prettiest and most peaceful big cichlids, they're safe with just about any other fish. This set is running big and already showing nice rows of pearly spots.
Fenestratus are the best value New World fish. The size is fantastic, lots of them 6"+. They're not fully colored but it's because they're crowded and not real hot. Warm them up when you get them and they will be outrageous. Got about a half dozen smaller zonatus that look great, lots of bifasciatus on sale, and a handful of ~3" melanura that are already showing color.
For bigger fish, I have a handful of big istlanum that look great. I keep these one per tank so their fins are cleaning up nicely. Also have one or two big dovii, a big one-eyed red devil, and a huge sagittae.
Medium black angels are on sale this week. They're a lot smaller than the larges but still very nice. Not all of them are solid black but it's a good strain, they'll get a lot darker as they grow. Also have the regular size fancy mix angels on sale.
Chili red oscars are in from Indo and they are crazy bright. Solid bright red, way brighter than any standard oscar. I'd guess they're full of hormone feed too, but I'd also guess they'll keep their color if you keep them on a good color enhancing diet. |

Like I mentioned up top, I have all the OB fish you could possibly want. I have three or four of the OB rostratus/red empress crosses ('redstratus'). These are unlike any other OB fish, with a vibrant blue/green face like a rostratus. Got in new OB yellow peacocks that are a little mixy in size but all of them have amazing color. And I have more large to XL size 'assorted OB Malawi Fish' that include peacocks, haps, and pea-haps. THey're pretty much all pea-haps but some of them look more like one or the other. All of them are fantastic. Been keeping these at one per tank so they're keeping their color pretty well.
In addition to the OB stuff I have a new set of Lwanda peacocks. Medium males with great color including a nice red/orange blaze on the dorsal fin. Medium albino sunshines are outstanding as well. Plenty of smaller peacocks left too but I'm getting low. Still have a few Bengas, lemon jakes, and caramel albino flavescents.
Bubblegum socos are in stock again. This is a very unique aquarium strain that's pink and blue splotched. This batch has some darker blue blotches as well as their signature light blue and pink. They're not easy to photograph, but everybody that's ordered them has re-ordered. Really good looking fish with a great name.
Most of my common mbunas continue to run big. Auratus, socos, snow white socos, red zebras, kenyi, EB johannis, and albino zebras are all big. Still have a few fancy mbunas left including Mbenji ruby OBs, Lab chismulae, and jewel-spot elongatus.
Plain old jewel cichlids are in stock this week. They've been out of stock longer than firemouths so I expect they'll go fast. Size is pretty good, color is good and will be great now that they're warming up. Fins are a little rough, and that may get worse as they warm up. These fish are jerks.
Got in limited numbers of nicholsi dwarf cichlids. Uncommon in the trade, this set is mostly male. When fully fired up they're beautiful blue and red fish. They stay small and you can treat them like a miniature Lake Victorian Hap.
Speaking of Vics, I have new red nyererei in stock this week and they're on special again because I didn't realize we actually had them. They're mixed sex but may be a little male heavy. The males are already super bright even at a small size. Like almost all Vics they're precosious breeders so the males fire up small and I'll probably have females holding eggs by Monday. Rock kribs are still great size and super colorful (and have an easier name compared to nyererei). Pink piebald haps are small but getting more piebald every week. |

Not much new in catfish but I do have several new loaches for a change.
Fancy pleco selection this week includes green phantoms in a couple sizes (that are almost the same size), Colombian snowballs, Colombian zebras, and a few lingering adonis plecos, mustard spots, blue phantoms, flash plecos, and Peru Peckoltia.
Got in a new batch of arcuatus skunk cories, as well as a ton of new pygmaeus. You're most likely to get filled cories this week are the tank-raised julii and sterbai cories.
Various other import catfish that look good include a few royal farlowellas, a few chameleon whiptails, spotted and striped raphaels and farlowella cats.
Got zodiac loaches in this week and they look great. This is a small, peaceful and super active species. They're fine in a community tank, and while they'll chase each other around they don't seem to do any damage. In fact, they're social fish and do best in groups as long as you give them enough hiding spots.
Sumo loaches are back in stock too. They're ...
Tiger botias are coming in really nice size right now. These are not friendly fish, although their aggression is probably overstated. They're perfectly capable of defending themselves and a territory but they don't often go out of their way to pick on their tankmates. Redtail botias are smaller than the tiger botias but still pretty nice. Clown loaches are small, probably a little under list size. |

Blue paradise are still fantastic size with great color. Albinos are a bit smaller but look good too. Moonlight gouramis look good. Blues and opalines are a bit small. Import gold honeys are very nice. Red honeys are bigger than golds and have lots of color.
Sold out of every medium boesmani this week, I apologize to those of you that missed out on them at the special price. Medium yellows and turquoise are nice this week, and the large Deepwater Creek splendida are outstanding.
Still have green scats from last week and got more this week. They're small but holding up great.
Asian needle gar have been here several weeks. They're very stable and on special this week.
Blythii clouded archers are also on sale. Small fish, barely 2", but they're all consistently sized so I'm guessing tank-raised. This is a true freshwater puffer that doesn't get quite as big as some of the other varieties.
Various other odds and ends that look good include huge 'medium' peacock gudgeon gobies, small bumblebee gobies, Florida flag fish, brown ghost knives, and large panda garras. |

I have orange-eyed carnival crabs in from Indo. These are Geosesarma sp, same as the vampire crabs. They're semi-aquatic, and do best kept in a terrarium like dart frogs. Just not with dart frogs as the crabs are predatory.
Haiti hermit crabs are on sale real cheap this week. Stock up while you can.
The deluxe mix shrimp are great size and a great mix of colors. Orange shrimp are big. Blues and bloody mary shrimp are small but very bright. Got a few really nice big amano shrimp left for next week. |

The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc. |
