Hey Everyone,
Colombia was good to us again this week. We used a supplier we don't use as often as our "main" sources, and got some really neat new stuff I think everyone's going to like.
Firstly, True Parrot Cichlids are back for the first time in about 3 years I think. These are one of the only truly green cichlids I've seen, and they are relatively peaceful for a large cichlid and have a cool and unique looking face. The ones we got in are the perfect size, about 3-3.5 inches.
The other cool stuff from Colombia are some spotted/marble hoplo cats, which are the perfect scavenger for any freshwater tank. These are about 2.5 inches already, and will get about 8 inches fully grown, but they have a mouth like a cory cat, not a redtail cat. They eat leftover foot, and do a great job rooting around the bottom of a tank cleaning up the leftovers. These also have an attractive spotted pattern unlike the Florida bred Hoplos we rarely get that are solid brown.
True Altum Angels are back, and this will probably be the last batch we can get this year. They have a fairly short collecting season, so they get very hard to come by very soon. These are the perfect size for acclimating to captivity, big enough to be sturdy and not need food every 6 hours, but small enough that they'll still adapt to a new water condition in captivity.
Some cool stuff from Asia came in too like zebra loaches and fire eels that are always extremely popular. Red Pearl Flowerhorns are somehow still here too, I have no idea how those didn't sell out. For about $6 they're the best value flowerhorn we've ever gotten in here I believe. Also got restocked on both Bulgarian Green and Green Avatar Angelfish, although both did come in smaller than last time (see pics below)
Check out the pictures and writeups about the specifics below and give your rep a call if you have any questions

True Altums are here, and we got a size larger than we did the last few times! These are looking really, really nice and so far holding up great *knock on wood*. This is probably your last chance to get them for 2025 from us, so don't sleep on it if you're on the fence. Would make a great display group in a display tank in your shop. |
Asellus Puffer are back in from Colombia and this batch is way bigger than the last batch. These do great in small groups with each other, but can be extremely rough on other fish species so be careful what you're tanking them with. |
Arowana are back for the first time this year. They're running very small, to be honest. Make sure you see this picture before you order them expecting 7 inch fish. They're big enough to not have egg-yolks and be sturdy. |
Brochis Cory are absolute TANKS this week. Gigantic wild caught Brochis that will definitely catch the eye of your customers. The Tank-Raised Brochis are still normal size, so make sure you put the correct fish on your order |
Gulper Cats are back! Probably some of the biggest I've seen come through, average size about 6 inches. They don't get much larger than that, but be aware a 6 inch gulper cat can EASILY eat a 5 inch tank-mate. Weirdly though, they don't ever eat each other. I guess they know not to eat other catfish due to the spines. |
The much cooler catfish that we got this week is one we've never had before! Wild Marbled Hoplo cats! They have spots on the sides of the body that are dark spots on a slightly lighter brown background. |
It's been a while since we've had this one here....orange-seam plecos from Colombia. These do get much better looking than the one pictured, with a little big of orange along the edge of the dorsal fin. They have some ragged fins from shipping which is totally normal, and I expect once they grow the fins back out (which only takes a couple weeks at most) you'll see the orange edges again. |
True Parrot cichlids (Hoplarchus) are back! One of my favorite SA Cichlids with a super unique look. Google pics of them as adults and you'll see a really neat looking fish. They do get pretty big, over a foot, but they're fairly laid back compared to the Central American cichlids that get the same size. |
Bulgarian Sealpoint Angels are back, but about half the size of last time. That might not be the worst thing though for this fish, since they have the best stunning black fins that contrast against the greenish body while they're young,. |
Knight Gobies got restocked from a new supplier, and this batch looks much healthier than the last ones. It's a cool fish, so I'm hoping they hold up better from this new source. They are a brackish fish that needs salt, however, so don't doom them by keeping them in a tank with no salt levels. |
Peacock Gudgeons are back in from Asia and we're hoping this is the last week we need to import them; The local breeder is saying they should have some ready to sell us in the next week or so. having said that though, this is a really good-sized batch so there's nothing at all wrong with getting these imports. |
Spotted puffer might be the smallest *ahem* ....I mean....the Cutest that I've ever seen in here before. We actually initially put them in the dwarf puffer tank and it took a second to realize they weren't dwarves. |
Clouded Archers are still here, and still awesome. These are true freshwater archers and only get about 6 inches, so they're better in every way compared to the less expensive standard archer. Plus look way cooler too. |
Delhizi bichirs came back in, and are about the same size as usual. These are all tank-raised so the sizing is usually pretty consistent. |
5"-6" fire eel came in a couple days ago and are holding up great. This size is a little cheaper than the 6-7 inch, and the color is just as good, making them an awesome value. Make sure to keep all spiny eels such as these on a sand or bare bottom, they'll un-alive themselves if you keep them on pea gravel....they bury and the gravel tears up their skin which will get infected. |
One of my favorite loaches is back! The Zebra Loach! They have an awesome looking pattern, and they're big enough to look impressive without getting too big for an average tank like Clown Loaches can. |
Red Pearl Flowerhorn 2.5" are still in stock. We also noticed there are some Thai Silks mixed in with them too. This is a great value fish, I would have thought for sure we would sell out this past week. We have maybe 25 left at most. |
4" Red Devil. These are still young enough to keep in a tank together, but they're getting to the point where that might or might not be the case in a couple months. They're about 90% piebald types like this. |
Regular EB Acara are looking fantastic this week! This group is very colored-up and good size. Great time to stock up on this popular community cichlid. |
Cribroheros Rostratus are still here. We thought we'd get a better picture of them to show the color. They're looking really, really good already, and still have a decent amount of growing to do. Very rare fish! |
Assorted medium male peacock have some great fish in the mix |
Another assorted medium male peacock. This is definitely hybridized with some other type of Hap, but your customers won't care, they just want pretty fish. Nobody is trying to breed peacock cichlids with pure strains, so don't let hybrids scare you. |
Regular-Taiwan Reefs are way oversized. I'd say average about 2.5-3 inch and the males are showing color. |
Redfin Borleyi are also running oversized right now. Super nice fish for the price. Males should be right at the point of about to flip to their mature colors. |
Electric Blue Johanni are the best looking regular Mbuna right now. Super bright colors. Might not be a bad idea to order mixed reg mbuna and then supplement with a few of these johanni. |
Butterfly Blue Moon Platies are very big and have awesome coloration. The yellow in the dorsal fin and along their back makes a great contrast with the blue body. |
Red Tiger Platy sell themselves. Look at these things. If you don't order them because they're more than the average platies cost, you really should try them. |
Red Wag Platy are running a little oversized, makes a great option for a platy this week. |
XL Swords are back, but are very limited. We will probably run out on Monday or MAYBE Tuesday. Look below though, these are not the best sword this week.... |
Red Tux swords are the best sword by far right now. They have the rich deep velvet red color that velvet swords are supposed to have. The black "tux" color in the middle of the body makes them look super cool. Thsi is always one of my favorite sword strains, along with Painteds. |
Pineapple wag are new for this week and look pretty good too. The size is good on them, and seem to have an OK ratio of male to female. |
All-Male Congos are great size and color, way bigger than the average. NOTE**it looks like the supplier shipped us SOME females mixed in with the males, so they're not 100% male but maybe like 90% males. However, for some reason, the price is actually cheaper for the all-male than for the mixed sex, so you're not really suffering a loss by getting a couple potential females. Just letting you know.. |
Albino Glow Light tetras have been pretty spotty availability for a while now, but they're here this week. If you've been looking for them, order Monday or Tuesday and you should get them. |
Glass Bloodfin tetras are on special this week. They're actually pretty different-looking from normal bloodfin tetras. This is a great inexpensive option to offer your customers, they won't see these in the big chains. |
Balloon Penguins are really cute! Nice fat bellies and they sort of waddle as they swim. |
Green Fire Tetras are back. This is a another really cool tetra that I think every store should carry. This one IS sometimes found in the large chains, but the availability is so restricted on these, the chains are usually sold out so you're probably still not competing against them, |
Panda Tetra are back in stock, and are basically like a bloodfin tetra with black fins instead of red. Even though they don't have any COOR, so to speak, they still look awesome in a big school together. |
Snakeskin barbs are restocked and are criminally underrated. These have better color than a tiger barb, and the wide teardrop shaped bars have a bit of a purple/green hue to them as the light hits the right angle. |
