More Florida cichlids and barbs, goldfish and Colombia restocks
Still have a couple of these Jumbo Red Devils
News & New Items
Hey Folks,
First, big thanks to everyone that stopped by our booth at Superzoo. For those that are always on the fence about attending this show, just to let you know we do offer a pretty significant discount off the next order for stores that stop by our booth and say hi and talk to us for a few minutes. Depending on the size of your order average, our discount might cover your costs of attending the show, so it might be beneficial for you to start coming!
The update is going to be a little more brief this week than usual since Joe is out of the office, but i'll try to get plenty of good pictures of what's looking best at the very least. I'd expect maybe you'll have a more detailed email write-up Monday about what else came in that we missed (I don't have direct access to our vender invoices like Joe does, so I have to actually see the fish to know what is new this week).
In fish news, we did get a restock on most of the popular imports from the far-east (parrots, goldfish, bettas, shrimp, knives etc) so those are still in good supply for the week. Since everyone was in Vegas we didn't get too much crazy stuff in that's new (and the last 2 weeks have been quite heavy for new items, much of which is still here).
We did also get a restock from Columbia in the middle of the week, nothing new but plenty of popular restocks. Got more arowanas, fancy plecos, cory catfish, etc. No new fish that we didn't already have this week, but plenty of stores skipped this week so you have a second chance at them next week now. Including the flagtail prochilodus that have been unavailable for months.
Also, with Joe being out of the office nobody can approve new specials for the week, and a lot of what was on last week's sold out, so I'm going to have to leave specials off the list today. We WILL have specials next week though, you'll just have to check the monday email for the full list of specials.
Please give a call if you have any questions.
Thanks
Medium Salvini are a fantastic batch, super bright yellow, red, and blue
Tetras and Relatives
Not much new in the tetra category this week aside from Red Hook silver dollars. These came in a little smaller, but I think they're going on the list as "med" as a result instead of large, so they'll be slightly less pricey.
For your bread and butter tetras, the species that are running the biggest and will be your best value this week are LF White skirts, Glowlights, LF Serpae, Bloodfins, Jumbo Neons, and Diamonds
I'd probably skip the Blue Kerris and Black Neons this week, both came in pretty small on their restocks.
Red Hooks came in a little smaller than usual but haven't been around much recently
Glowlight tetras are running huge. Super active and decently colorful
Albino Congos
Jumbo Neons are massive, full grown fish
Black Phantom Tetras
Barbs, Danios & Relatives
Florida-bred barbs are fairly hit or miss right now. The large sized tiger barbs are fantastic, full of color and huge. The albino tiger barbs are extremely tiny, skip those and let the big chains clear us out of this batch. We won't be crediting for size, you're warned now. Black Ruby are still one of the nicest fish here. Sorry for mentioning black rubies for the 4th time in like 6 weeks, but I spent 7 years working here and these past 2 months have been the only time I've ever seen these have color. Get them while you still can, the value is fantastic.
Danios are running large on the leopards, and the giants are average to decent size.
Rasboras have some nice looking Celestial Pearl Danios (Galaxy Rasbora) and Emerald Dwarf Rasboras. They don't photograph well since they're small fish, so I'm not posting a pic but both look good right now.
If you're not ordering Black Ruby barbs, you're missing out
Livebearers
We got a restock on 3 colors of large sailfin mollies (green, black, gold) and the best of the 3 are definitely the golds. Great color and size. If you want a cheaper molly to offer at a lower price point I would recommend dalmations and gold panda this week.
Best platy are definitely the XL, and I'm honestly suprised they don't sell out every week. They're 100% worth the extra cost over the normal size colors.
Guppies have plenty of nice varieties to choose from this week, with Blue Moscows and Red Dumbos probably being the top 2 IMO. The normal mixed males have a lot of cobra types in it this week which is a nice plus. Females are running small, but that's been the case for a couple months in a row now. Honestly for anyone wanting to breed guppies, getting young females is best.
Swordtails are in pretty limited supply at the moment (we probably have more coming in early next week) but the best of what's here are the pink comets and the marigold wag. We do still have a tank of maybe 6 or 7 firecrackers left, so if you're still looking for those let your rep know, but we couldn't put them on the stocklist with only a handful of fish to offer for the week.
Gold Sailfin Molly Large (male pictured, but sold mixed sex)
Pink Comet Swords are a neat color variation
XL Platy Mix are truly XL
New World Cichlids
Lots of great new world cichlids in stock still. Plenty of bread and butter good value stuff that your customers know the names of and plenty of rare cool stuff that the more hardcore hobbyists/home breeders will be into.
3 inch Red Devils look great this week, they're all the mottled red and white coloration that everyone prefers over the solid red. Also have a couple gigantic ones left. Also in stock with regular sized jack dempseys, convicts, and firemouths to fill in the rest of the super common cheap stuff. And restocked on EB Jacks too, one of the best looking fish you can possibly get with insanely bright blue coloration.
Blue rams of all types and sizes are fantastic this week. Got Electric blues in stock this week, and both sizes of the normal blues are running large. Golds are decent, good color, and the bolivian rams are also a little larger than average. Also, fun fact, bolivian rams are sand-sifters and communal like tiny colorful geophagus. Not sure why they're not more popular, I personally like them better than blues.
Still have the Geophagus Sveni here. Picture is below, they're not big, but they're extremely desirable and this is the first time we've gotten them. Freddy's and Zonatus are both very nice fish when they grow up and a reasonable price when they're at regular size like we have.
Severums have been short supply lately, but this week we have both the red striped and red spotted golds in stock. Both are florida bred and super healthy and bright.
Medium Koi angels are looking good right now, yellow variety not orange
Lemon Oscars
Red Spot Gold Severum - FL Bred, no hormones
Electric Jacks are back in stock finally!
The 1.5-2 Inch Dovii have been here long enough we're about to start naming them. And as you can see, they're over 3 inches.
Polar Parrots are small but great color already, very blue
Green Seal Point Angels are the most interesting angel variation
Red-Striped Liberifer Severum
Geophagus sveni
Regular blue rams are running larger than usual
Old World Cichlids
Those Azureus are still here, and that's by far the best looking african in the building at the moment. They're so brightly blue they look photoshopped in real life. Also on the upper end of the price and color scale are the various mixed florida peacocks which are all fantastic. The larges are only a couple dollars more than the mediums, get those first.
Lelupi Cichlid
"Regular" size Nyereri are huge
"Albino Red Fire Med Male Peacock". Super nice. Dragonblood variety.
Catfish and Loaches
Not sure what's going to be good for next week on cory cats so I left a few off the list that just showed up, Joe will include them on the New fish list on Monday if they're good to go. In the meantime the Julii or the medium paleatus are your best bet. Also got a fresh batch of the albino paleatus, which are WAY cooler than standard albino cory and not much more expensive at all. Definitely worth trying a dozen of.
Redtail catfish came in again at the 3-4 inch range and I'm pleased to say most are closer to 4 than 3. At this size they are much sturdier, the tiny ones need to eat constantly or they'll waste away. These get too big for almost everybody, but they still sell extremely well.
Banjo Catfish are the coolest fish you can buy for the least amount of money
3-4 inch redtail cats
Julii Cory Cats
Other Fish & Stuff
If you order pearl gouramis this week you might get lucky and get a couple of the giant ones that didn't make it to SuperZoo last week, and even if you don't win the lottery on that the rest of them are solid size anyway so definitely worth ordering. Those red paradise are still here too, which are not the same as what most people think of when you hear red paradise. The body is entirely red, not just red stripes. And in case you almost went crazy last week when we were out of stock of giant gold gouramis for the first time in months, we got more of those again too.
Got restocked on pearlscale and panda telescope goldfish today and both seem to be holding up well. We got more of the 6.5 inch sized orandas too and a few are calicos that everybody always wants so nice to have some variety not just reds and whites.
Panda Telescope Goldfish
Pink Giant Gourami
SALTWATER/CORALS
The Saltwater stock-list gets sent out on MONDAY afternoon.
In saltwater, we offer tons of top-of-the-line corals. If you need really nice frags to sell for $10-15, we've got you covered. If you want a $400 show piece unique Australian brain corals, we've got that too. Tons of the coral frags are aquacultured in-house and are named lineage pieces of various SPS and LPS. Import frags that are MADE in-house are also available, and are great options to get slightly bigger pieces that customers want like torches, hammers, blastos, acans, zoas, etc.
Effective February 1, 2019 Pictures for freshwater DOA claims are REQUIRED. DOA credits will no longer be approved if there are not accompanying pictures. This is to see the bag sizes, water quality at arrival, if heat/ice packs are present, etc.
Just snap a picture of the bag with your cell phone as you're putting the bags in the tank to float and that will work and should only take literally 10 seconds per bag that contains losses. These will help us to figure out why they arrived DOA and how to prevent it in the future. It is preferred that you email the pictures to your rep, but you can also text them into your rep as well. Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
SALTWATER DOA POLICY: All Saltwater DOA need a clear picture of the fish out of the bag on a cooler lid from your shipment and emailed to your sales rep the day or day after your shipment arrives. Any fish lost in shipment will be credited if you follow that easy instruction. Fish that die overnight are not creditable unless they arrive in very rough condition (basically dead) and you notify us of the condition with a clear picture of the issue the day it arrives.
